The Star Wars The Acolyte Season 1 had interesting new takes on Star Wars and the lore itself. From having twins made out of Force just like Anakin to fantastic lightsaber duels, The Acolyte showed how the franchise can evolve through interesting story-telling and a different time period.
The polarizing series also showcased one of the more uncommon characters in the franchise: Jedi Wookie. If you’re impressed with Kelnacca’s lightsaber skills, worry not, because we have a list of them for you to know more about.
In no particular order, here are all the known Jedi Wookies across Star Wars canon and Legends.
Vorlocca
Vorlocca was a Jedi Wookie in Star Wars Legends who guarded the Almas Sith Fortress during the Clone Wars. After getting attacked by the enslaver Phylus Mon and Dark Jedi Karae Nalvas around 20 BBY, Vorlocca died in the fight and his corpse was taken into the fortress and fed into three gundarks. Like his fellow Wookies, Vorlocca was physically powerful.
Arkoff
The Jedi Master Arkoff is in Star Wars canon where he was stationed in a Jedi Temple on the planet Banchii, along with Jedi Knight Lily Tora-Asi, during the High Republic era. Arkoff and his padawans helped those who were affected by the Great Hyperspace Disaster, which involved a pirate ship sabotaging a ship filled with cargo and colonists while traveling through hyperspace, hurtling debris, and displacing colonists in realspace. Arkoff had a braided face fur, was equipped with a green lightsaber, and was proficient in lightsaber battles.
Burryaga Agaburry
Burryaga Agaburry was a Jedi Knight in Star Wars canon who was also active during the High Republic era. He also assisted those who were affected by the Great Hyperspace Disaster. It was because of Burryaga that those survivors aboard some starship fragments were able to be rescued by the Jedi. He felt their terrified emotions and reflected this into the Force network, allowing Jedi to know that there were still survivors in space. Burryaga Agaburry used a blue lightsaber with a crossguard and was described as a sensitive Jedi by those around him.
Tyvokka
Tyvokka is a Wookie Jedi Master present in both canon and Legends. In canon, he took the fabled Jedi Plo Koon as his padawan and was a member of the Jedi High Council. In Legends, Tyvokka had the ability to sense the future and went to a peace summit on the planet Troiken along with Qui-Gon Jin, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Adi Gallia. However, the peace summit went downhill as one of the parties involved in the summit drew their weapons against everyone and demanded that the other party surrender. Tyvokka was accidentally killed in the skirmish and was replaced by Plo Koon for the mission and his seat in the council.
Ruhr
Ruhr is from Star Wars Legends, and he was a Jedi Temple Master during the Rakatan Infinite Empire era. He was one of the Jedi who formed the Master’s Council during that period. He was briefly seen as a hologram in one of Star Wars comics called Dawn of the Jedi: Force Storm.
Kitmum
Kitmum was a Jedi teacher teaching in the Coruscant’s Jedi Academy. She isn’t present in canon and is considered as non-canon in Legends. However, she appeared in the non-canon Star Wars novel for kids called Jedi Academy. The book featured a slice-of-life story revolving around several padawans trying to learn to be a Jedi. Kitmum was known to create an intensive course to test students to their physical limits.
Gungi
Gungi is another Wookie Jedi who was present in both canon and Legends. Gungi was part of the padawan class that was accompanied by Yoda and Ahsoka Tano to Ilum to partake in The Gathering; a Jedi ritual that proved the readiness of padawans in becoming a Jedi. He created a green-bladed lightsaber with a Brylark tree hilt from the kyber crystal he obtained during this ritual. Gungi survived the Great Jedi Purge in both canon and Legends, and he was known to raise his lightsaber against General Grievous in Star Wars Legends.
Kirlocca
Kirlocca is another Wookie Jedi in Star Wars Legends who is known for his unique lightsaber skills. During his time as a Jedi Master, he encountered various challenges against a Sith cult called The Believers. He became the Almas Academy’s Master of Lightsaber after spending years teaching padawans. Kirlocca died at the hands of a former student named Raik Muun who became a Dark Jedi after being banished from the Academy for attempting to have deeper personal relationships with her fellow students; which is against Jedi teachings.
Lowbacca
Lowbacca was a Jedi Wookie in Star Wars Legends. Known as Chewbacca’s nephew, Lowbacca studied in Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Praxeum and was a companion of Jacen and Jaina Solo, Anakin Solo, Zekk, and Tenel Ka - all Legends characters with the first three being the children of Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo. Lowbacca used a bronze-bladed lightsaber, another Legend. He used a translator droid named Em Teedee. Lowbacca first appeared in the young adult Star Wars novel entitled Young Jedi Knights: Heirs of the Force
Kelnacca
One of the most famous and recent Jedi Wookies in Star Wars, Kelnacca was a Jedi Master who appeared in Disney+’s The Acolyte. He lived during the tail end of the High Republic era and was stationed in Brendok along with Jedi Master Sol, Jedi Master Indara, and Jedi Master Torbin. He was killed by Qimir during the events of The Acolyte. He wielded a green-bladed lightsaber which was destroyed during the Jedi’s encounter with Qimir in Khofar. He was confirmed to become a madclaw after the incident with the witches in Brendok years prior
Kelnacca may not be the last Jedi Wookie that everyone will see, as The Acolyte has left its story open for a possible Season 2. While his story is tragic, it just goes to show how powerful the Force is if controlled by the wrong hands.
