How come Sol's lightsaber changed colors in The Acolyte finale? Despite his past transgressions having serious ramifications for Osha and Mae, why did his blue saber suddenly turn red after Osha wielded it? Here's what happened.

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains spoilers for The Acolyte finale, so proceed with caution.

Jedi Master Sol's Apology Was NOT Enough

When Mae steals Sol's lightsaber from him, the glow is gone, leaving the hilt of the sword in her hand as she confronts him about the true story of what happened the night they left Brendok.

Sol finally admits the truth: he killed their Mother Aniseya and blamed the start of the fire at the witches' coven on Mae. Little did he know that Osha had been listening to his confession all this time.

In an attempt to remedy the situation, Sol finds himself approaching Osha to explain why he did those things. As it turns out, he merely wanted proof that vergence existed on the planet Brendok, the place the twins grew up in.

The camera cuts to the hilt that Osha is holding in her hand. Inside, fans could see the color of blood circulating inside the kyber crystal. What's happening here, exactly?

Every Jedi possesses a different colored kyber crystal for their lightsaber, but a Sith's lightsaber will always be red.

The only way that a Sith can forge their own weapon is by 'bleeding' their negative emotions (rage, hate, fear, pain) through the Dark Side of the Force.

In this case, while Osha had already killed Sol, she wasn't quite finished with her journey just yet.

Upon swinging the lightsaber, the glowing light turns from blue to red, leading Qimir aka The Stranger to confirm his suspicions: his Acolyte should be Osha, not Mae.

The Acolyte's finale marks the first live-action series to show how a Sith apprentice was able to forge the 'kyber crystal bleeding' to transform Sol's lightsaber into her own.
