After the second season, The Pitt Season 3 is undergoing a major cast shakeup, with some cast members leaving while others are being promoted or transferred to different departments.

Despite these changes, several new faces are joining the series, and it looks like the Emergency Department will be busier than ever this season.

According to Deadline, a total of seven new cast members are joining the hit medical drama. Fans will see Stephen Chang as Mitch Connors, an Emergency Department patient, alongside Barry Clifton as David “Bear” Burton, who is also a patient at the medical center.

Other stars portraying patients include Lawrence Kao as Harold Joslyn, Hannah Ware as Charlotte Boyle, and Brent Sexton as Daryl Oates.

Chris Diamantopoulos also joins the HBO series as CMO Dr. Asher Grossman, while JB Tadena will play Dr. Reed Thomas, a PTMC physician.

These additions come after HBO Max announced another set of stars joining the roster as both patients and doctors, including Pruitt Taylor Vince, Cheyenne Perez, Malachi Beasley, and Rosanny Zayas.

After Season 2 took place during the Fourth of July, The Pitt Season 3 features a four-month time jump to November 12, the day after Veterans Day.

Two weeks before Thanksgiving, Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) returns from his sabbatical, ready to get back to the emergency department.

But in addition to the medical emergencies, the new season primarily focuses on Robby’s efforts to heal from a deep accumulation of professional and personal grief.

As series creator R. Scott Gemmill puts it, the new episodes see Robby “doing the work” to confront his trauma.

“Season 1, the doctor is the patient. Season 2, doctors don't make good patients. Season 3, doctors benefit from being patients,” Wyle told TVLine, explaining the new season’s theme.

That said, the actor-producer revealed that his character’s journey would be marked by “a thoughtfulness, a caution, a trepidation,” but also “a sense of possibility and hope.”

In addition to Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, Sepideh Moafi, Patrick Ball, Isa Briones, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif, and Gerran Howell also return for The Pitt Season 3.

Fans will also continue to see Shawn Hatosy as fan-favorite Dr. Jack Abbott, alongside Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi, who will now work in the psychiatry department instead of the Emergency Department. Ayesha Harris also returns as Dr. Parker Ellis, who has been promoted to a series regular.

The Pitt Season 2 is expected to premiere in January 2027, while the first two seasons are available to stream on HBO Max.
