The first season finale of The Acolyte shot down the concerns surrounding the show's potential breaking of the long-established Star Wars canon.

Earlier in the season, some fans criticized the plot points that The Acolyte introduced as they were concerned that the series might break the canon, particularly on Ki-Adi-Mundi's cameo since he wasn't supposed to be aware of the Sith's rise during The Phantom Menace.

Considering that the series is set around 100 years before the prequel trilogy, showrunner Leslye Headland and her team have a lot of leeway on their storytelling choices, and some fans are worried that it might lead to canon problems down the line.

A major plot point that happened near the end of the first season finale of The Acolyte proved that the series did not break the canon after all.

After she discovers Sol's corpse in Brendok following his confrontation against Osha, Mae, and Qimir, Vernestra decides to use him as a scapegoat and covers up the truth about the events that happened.

She told the Senate that Sol was responsible for what happened in Brendok and the killing of the other Jedis. She also claimed that he took his own life due to the guilt that he felt throughout the years.

With Vernestra's covering up, the Jedi Council and the Senate are not aware of the Sith's existence and explain their naivety during their rise in the prequel trilogy.

In other words, this proved that the series was not breaking the canon after all and it also further showed the problems that the Jedi Council had within their body that would pave the way for their downfall in around 100 years.

This should shoot down all the complaints and criticisms of some fans regarding its alleged breaking of canon since the series has made it clear it was not going to happen and they intend to respect what the stories in future timelines have established.

It is curious to see how they will handle the aftermath of Vernestra's actions in the potential second season, especially now that she has confided with Yoda about the issue.

All episodes of The Acolyte season 1 are streaming on Disney+.
