  • Quick Answer: The newly released synopsis for Spaceballs 2 mocks Disney-era Star Wars by parodying the sequel trilogy, unexpected villain returns, and saturated streaming strategies.

The official synopsis for the highly anticipated sequel to Spaceballs poked fun at the Disney era of the Star Wars franchise.

After four decades, the long-awaited sequel to the Mel Brooks comedy classic Spaceballs is finally on the way, with most of the original cast members returning, as well as new cast members. Fans have been looking forward to seeing how it will poke fun at the current state of the Star Wars franchise.

Now, based on the synopsis that was just released, it looks like it will be relentless in its parody once again.

How the Spaceballs 2 Synopsis Poked Fun at the Star Wars Disney Era

Amazon MGM Studios recently released the official synopsis for the Spaceballs sequel titled Spaceballs: The New One, ahead of its theatrical release early next year.

Aside from giving fans a tease on the plot of the follow-up, it also made references and jokes about the recent state of the Star Wars franchise, as well as the Hollywood trends on reboots.

Fans immediately noticed that the synopsis relentlessly threw shade at the Star Wars sequel trilogy under Disney, the return of Emperor Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker, and the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu through the " Schwartz stretched thinner than a franchise releasing TV episodes theatrically" line.

While there is no footage about the movie, this is already giving them an idea of how the sequel will poke fun at the current state of the Star Wars franchise, and based on the synopsis, it seems that they will even reference the Disney+ projects and, in the case of The Mandalorian and Grogu, its jump to the big screen.

So far, there are no details yet on when the first teaser trailer for Spaceballs: The New One will be released.

What to Expect in Spaceballs: The New One

Spaceballs: The New One is described as "A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film." Josh Greenbaum directed the film, while Mel Brooks, who directed the original and recently celebrated his 100th birthday, is involved as one of the producers.

Returning cast members from the original Spaceballs movie are Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, Rick Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet, Mel Brooks as Yogurt and President Skroob, Daphne Zuniga as Queen Vespa, and George Wyner as Colonel Sandurz.

New cast members joining the sequel are Josh Gad (who also co-wrote the screenplay and co-produces the film), Lewis Pullman (who will play Starburst, Lone Starr and Vespa's son), Keke Palmer (as Destiny), and Anthony Carrigan.

The film is currently slated for release in theaters on April 23, 2027.
