The recently-aired first season finale of The Acolyte featured a surprise cameo appearance from a well-known Star Wars character that sets up the potential storyline for season 2.

Throughout the first season's run, the series has barely featured any cameos from the franchise's other characters considering that it is set in the High Republic era.

Despite that, fans are speculating whether a well-known Star Wars character that exists in the High Republic era will make an appearance in the series at some point. Fortunately, that has finally happened thanks to the final moments of the season finale.

To the surprise of many fans, Yoda showed up in the final moments of the first season finale of The Acolyte.

Following Sol's death in Brendok, Vernestra decided to cover up the events to the Senate by blaming him for what happened including the killing of the other Jedis (that were actually perpetuated by Mae and Qimir).

She also claimed that Sol took his own life after being guilty of his actions throughout the years.

While talking to Mae (whose memory was wiped as part of the agreement to let her go when Osha agreed to train under Qimir), Vernestra promised to make things right and tasked her to help find her former apprentice who turned evil (most likely to be Qimir).

The episode ended with Vernestra asking for help from Yoda. While we only saw his back, it is unmistakably the iconic Jedi character with his familiar long ears, green skin, and white hair.

Yoda's cameo appearance may come as a surprise even if the character is a prominent figure in the High Republic era since showrunner Leslye Headland previously denied that he would show up in the series.

"Can you imagine? Can you imagine if they were like, 'No problem. You can use Yoda. Not a big deal. Go for it.' No, there is not [a Yoda cameo]. We are pulling characters from the High Republic, and characters from EU [Expanded Universe]. That's it," she said during a past interview.

As it turns out, Headland was just hiding the surprise at that time and now fans are celebrating his brief appearance.

It is interesting how it all plays out in the potential second season since Yoda's cameo sets him up to be a major presence in the future of the series.

All episodes of The Acolyte season 1 are streaming on Disney+.
