King declared martial law at the end of Daredevil Season 1, tightening his grip on Hell’s Kitchen and effectively criminalizing vigilantes.

In a recent interview with showrunner Dario Scardapane, he revealed that after this big move, Daredevil Season 2 will take place six months in advance to show the dramatic changes in New York City.

“Fisk has won, the city is gradually being put under his boot, and we pick up all of our major players around six months later. The Fisk administration at this point has really taken hold. At the same time, there’s a bubbling up of an underground,” he told SFX Magazine. “New York is being transformed. Some people might call that a rebirth, some might call it decay. And the characters are being transformed by dint of huge political machinations.”

By the looks of it, the upcoming time jump will feature the consequences of Fisk’s rule, heightening the stakes and presenting a more oppressive and controlled Hell’s Kitchen than ever before.

The end of Daredevil Season 1 cemented Kingpin’s rise to power as the mayor of New York City. After launching his “Safer Streets” initiative and declaring martial law, all vigilante activity was officially criminalized.

This forces Matt Murdock / Daredevil (Charlie Cox) into hiding after becoming a target of Kingpin’s anti-vigilante task force, ultimately pushing him to begin building his own resistance.

This time, he won’t be working alone. Alongside Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), he will attempt to bring Fisk down while also reuniting with a fellow Defender, the returning Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter).

Scardapane even revealed that fans would see a very different version of Jessica following the events of Netflix’s Jessica Jones series.

“One of the things we’ve leaned into is that time has passed between the end of the Netflix show and the beginning of ours. We’re acknowledging that. These characters have matured; they’ve gone through life. And Jessica Jones, bourbon-swilling smartass -- what’s it like for her to mature seven years?” he explained.

He also praised what Melissa Rosenberg accomplished with the character, adding that Jessica’s story was never meant to end there and that comic readers know another chapter of her life still awaits.

As New York City becomes harsher and more dangerous under Fisk’s rule, Daredevil and his growing group of allies will search for a way to overthrow Kingpin, even if it means crossing moral lines along the way.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is slated to premiere on March 24 on Disney+.
