  • Quick Answer: Daemon Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon will continue their complex alliance in House of the Dragon Season 4 as major conflicts reach their peak.

Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and Lord Corlys (Steve Toussaint) may have political alliances, wartime camaraderie, and extended family ties through marriage, but the two also have plenty of differences.

Corlys’ relationship with Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) was even strained despite serving as her Hand after she refused to properly legitimize his sons, Alyn (Abubakar Salim) and Addam (Clinton Liberty) of Hull.

But now that he’s back and working alongside Daemon, what will their storyline be in House of the Dragon Season 4?

In House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6, “Faceless Men,” Corlys was captured by Lord Ormund’s (James Norton) forces just as he decided to turn his forces back to support Rhaenyra.

However, in the Season 3 finale, Ser Gwayne (Freddie Fox) brought Corlys to Daemon as a peace offering and bargaining chip to stop the Battle of Tumbleton.

But as Daemon refused the offer, he took Corlys as his own prisoner, with the two ending up in a disagreement after the Hand agreed to let Daeron (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) lead Oldtown.

Despite this, Corlys pulled Daemon out of Tumbleton after the battle was over, hinting at the continuation of their alliance in House of the Dragon Season 4.

“I think that there is, and has always been, a sort of wary respect between the two of them,” Steve Toussaint told ScreenRant. “I think for Corlys, he sees Daemon as he's clearly a formidable warrior and sometimes a decent tactician, or if not a little bit reckless. And I don't think that that's changed.”

And just like viewers, the British actor is excited to see how Daemon and Corlys will work together in the future, especially with Rhaenyra.

“Between Daemon, Corlys, and Rhaenyra, that's an interesting triumvirate considering what they have been through, considering where they have shifted to,” he continued. “The final scene of the finale shows us that I think that Rhaenyra is becoming a bit more hardened, and whereas Corlys is, at this point, just tired of war. I think he sees it as futile. So yeah, it'd be interesting to see that. But I think that mutual respect is still there because I believe that, certainly in that scene with Daemon when he dragged him out of Tumbleton, I believe that he saves Daemon from himself.”

House of the Dragon S3 Finale

The Season 3 finale positioned Rhaenyra as the House of the Dragon Season 4 villain as she descended into madness to maintain her power as queen.

As the fourth season will also serve as the series finale, it will take viewers through the end of the Targaryen civil war, also known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Without venturing into spoiler territory, considering how things have unfolded over the first three seasons, there will surely be shocking twists, major deaths, and massive set pieces that fans won’t want to miss.

Several iconic moments from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, on which the show is based, are set to happen here, such as the Storming of the Dragonpit, the Battle Above the God’s Eye, and the fate of Rhaenyra Targaryen.

As showrunner Ryan Condal teased, the fourth season will be “massive” and will be “the biggest season we have made, for sure.”

House of the Dragon Season 4 is set to be released in 2028, while the first three seasons are available to stream on HBO Max.
