After the success of Game of Thrones, another George R.R. Martin masterpiece has arrived: House of the Dragon.

The spinoff quickly became one of the fan-favorite fantasy series of the decade, thanks to its compelling characters, stunning visual effects, sharp writing, and powerful performances.

Fortunately, the show is available to stream online. Here’s where to watch the first two seasons of House of the Dragon, and how to use a VPN, such as ExpressVPN or VeePN, if it’s not available in your country.

Where to Watch House of the Dragon Online

Based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is set roughly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and about 100 years after the Targaryen conquest united the Seven Kingdoms.

The show chronicles the events that lead to the downfall of House Targaryen, culminating in the devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons, which occurs 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.

It's a legendary tale, and is well worth a watch if you're into Game of Thrones. Here's where you can catch House of the Dragon online:

How to Use a VPN to Watch House of the Dragon Online

HBO Max is the flagship streaming platform of House of the Dragon. Other streamers mentioned are only international HBO affiliated services that cater for the show. So, if your region happens not to have direct streaming available, you can use a VPN to access HBO Max or its regional streaming platforms.

A VPN lets you change your IP address so it appears you’re browsing from a country where the content is available, effectively bypassing geo-restrictions. This allows you to access regional libraries, enabling you to watch the show from anywhere in the world.

For the best streaming experience, we recommend ExpressVPN and VeePN.

Wondering how VPNs work? Here’s a simple guide to get you started.

Step 1: Sign Up

  • Get a VPN subscription and download the app on your preferred device.

Step 2: Connect

  • Open the app and connect to a server located in a region where you can watch House of the Dragon.

Step 3: Stream

  • Go to your preferred streaming platform, log in, and start streaming the first two seasons of House of the Dragon.

Other VPN Options to Consider

Searching for VPN alternatives? Besides ExpressVPN and VeePN, which offer secure and seamless streaming, here are a few other options worth exploring:

  • NordVPN: Offers strong security and provides excellent server speeds.
  • Surfshark: Unlimited device connections at an affordable price.
  • CyberGhost: Known for its fast speed and reliable server networks across countries.
  • Private Internet Access: Known for strong privacy features and an affordable, feature-rich VPN service

VPNs aren’t just for streaming; they also help keep your online activity private. By hiding your IP address and encrypting your internet traffic, it becomes much harder for anyone to snoop on what you’re doing online.

For the best protection, keep your VPN turned on whenever you’re browsing to stay safe from online threats.

Ahead of the second season’s release, HBO renewed House of the Dragon for a third season in June 2024. Less than a year later, production began in March 2025, and it has now officially wrapped, with the show currently in post-production.

While Season 2 focused on the early stages of the civil war within House Targaryen, pitting pro-Aegon and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) on Team Green against Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D'Arcy) allies on Team Black, fans can expect Season 3 to continue these major battles. One highlight will be a major fight in Harrenhal, where numerous troops were last seen heading in the Season 2 finale.

  • “While this season was very much about the fits and starts of an early medieval war, Season 3 is clearly going to be about total war,” showrunner Ryan Condal said on Inside the Episode.

There’s no official release date yet for House of the Dragon Season 3, but it’s expected to premiere in the summer of 2026, though this is purely speculation. Stay tuned for future updates!
