High Potential Season 2 is gearing up for its big return after a cliffhanging finale in Season 1. The upcoming season will introduce new faces, including Steve Howey, whose mysterious character as Nick Wagner has been teased by Judy Reyes.
Described only as a “political animal who knows how to wear an expensive suit and oozes effortless charm,” it looks like there is more to Howey’s character that fans need to see.
What is Steve Howey’s Role in High Potential Season 2?

Howey’s Wagner joins Major Crimes when High Potential returns for its second season, and according to Judy Reyes, who plays Selena, he will be “messing with the lives of the people” at the precinct.
“I think that creates all kinds of friction and competition and complexity in terms of relationships,” she told Us Weekly. “Especially where Selena Soto is involved because she’s used to being in charge.”
In fact, Wagner will play a major role in Selena’s story arc, and it won’t be easy for anyone.
“Steve Howey’s character is really turned on by this group of people, and he wants to be part of it so badly,” Reyes continued. “He continues to inject himself into the environment, and it creates a little drama.”
In addition to being a political figure, Howey’s character is described as “a guy who can launch a million fundraisers with his smile” and someone who “has disruptor tenacity and likes thinking outside the box,” much like Morgan (Kaitlin Olson).
With his undeniable charm, “he has a way of putting himself right in the middle of the action … whether he’s wanted there or not.”
What to Expect from Hight Potential Season 2?

After Morgan learned that her missing husband, Roman, is still alive—and that Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) knows where he is—more revelations may be in store in High Potential Season 2.
There are even rumors that new addition Mekhi Phifer may be playing Roman, though the show has kept his role under wraps. When asked about the possibility, showrunner Todd Harthan told TVLine that it’s “100% a possibility.”
Harthan also hinted at a major moment for Morgan and someone who must not yet be mentioned. “There’s a lovely surprise in our midseason finale,” he teased.
In addition, he told TV Guide that the new season will explore the backstories of all characters, not just Morgan."We haven't even gotten into the friends and family yet and all those messy storylines,” he said. “We've barely scratched the surface of some of the relationships.”
Of course, the show’s compelling cases will continue, with Harthan promising a mix of lighter, darker, and everything-in-between stories.
"I think the things that people were loving about the show are going to stay and hopefully even get better, and the things they have a big appetite for that we barely did last year are going to bloom," he continued. "In this little villain story, there are some twists and turns coming. I love to go, 'What do I expect if I was an audience member?' I like to really turn the dials and give you something unexpected, so I'm excited for all of it."
High Potential Season 2 debuts on September 16 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, with new episodes streaming the next day via Hulu subscription.
