The hit ABC crime procedural series High Potential has become one of the biggest hit new shows on the network for the last few months, and you might be wondering whether it has already been renewed for season 2.
While the series broadcast on a linear network, it has also become a hit on streaming with its first two episodes averaging 10 million cross-platform viewers after seven days.
Is High Potential Already Renewed for Season 2?
Fortunately, ABC has confirmed recently that High Potential is officially renewed for season 2.
The next season will be airing during the 2025-2026 broadcast season. It is unknown yet whether it will also have 13 episodes like the first season or if it will have a supersized order.
The show's renewal did not come as a surprise since it has become one of the biggest hit new shows of 2024 with Kaitlin Olson's performance being praised and its unique take on the procedural genre.
The ratings were also consistent when the series returned earlier this month after a mid-season break as it averaged 5.74 million same-day viewers. The eighth episode (which aired on January 7) received 12.9 million viewers across all platforms over seven days which was a series high.
This is the second series that ABC renewed this week for next season. They also announced recently that the hit sitcom Abbott Elementary has officially been renewed for a fifth season.
What is High Potential About?
High Potential follows a single mom with an exceptional mind named Morgan (Kaitlin Olson), whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective (Daniel Sunjata).
The series is an American remake of the acclaimed French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI) with Drew Goddard serving as the creator and executive producer.
Aside from Olson and Sunjata, the main cast also includes Javicia Leslie, Judy Reyes, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, and Matthew Lamb. Taran Killam and Garrett Dillahunt have recurring roles in the first season.
In the most recent episode, Morgan and the LAPD Major Crimes division investigate a nanny who is found bludgeoned to death in the park. Elsewhere, Morgan interferes when Elliot admits to not being invited to his classmate’s party.
