Jeffrey Dean Morgan reveals that Denny's death in Grey's Anatomy had a surprising connection to The Boys' episode 6 twist.

The big whoop that The Boys season 4 has been building up to finally mark its truth in the sixth episode: Billy Butcher has been hallucinating. And here's how Morgan pulled the old trick up his sleeve to show who Joe Kessler really is.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Pulled His Dead Denny Trick on The Boys

As it turns out, the Joe Kessler we've been following in The Boys season 4 is nothing more than a hallucination from Butcher, a side effect after taking too much Temp V.

As far as big TV plot twists go, episode 6 titled Dirty Business not only meant finding out what Homelander and Sister Sage are up to but also in Butcher having to find who his "real self" is.

"I think we shot that and another scene in one day — the scene where [Joe] Kessler gives the big speech sitting down on the crates, and they're talking," Morgan recently revealed, "We shot both those in the same day."

Then the former Grey's Anatomy actor went on to explain how his role as Denny in the medical drama series helped him in making up Joe Kessler as his own on-screen TV character.

Morgan recalled the script, "I've played this game before — I played dead Denny [on 'Grey's Anatomy'], so I knew some tricks, which kind of came in f*cking handy."

After Denny died on the show, Izzie started hallucinating about her late boyfriend.

As the series revealed, the hallucinations happened to be a side effect of her Metastatic Melanoma cancer. Denny only disappeared once Izzie started going under treatment.

But apart from that, as Morgan shared, the chemistry with your co-star on set is where the story lies, too.

Morgan continued to say that he and Karl Urban were so "locked into each other" that the scene felt like it was the whole point of the episode, "It didn't f*cking matter who else or whatever was going on in the scene."

"[Butcher actor] Karl [Urban] was like my f*cking soulmate," Morgan said, "And immediately we knew we had something really fun and special here, and let's just have fun and play and enjoy it."
