The Boys star Antony Starr recently spoke out against the fans who are glorifying his character Homelander.

The fan-favorite villain has become one of the most sinister characters on television due to his unapologetic evil personality and compelling arc that made audiences somewhat invest in his journey despite being on the other side of the coin.

In a roundtable interview with Entertainment Weekly, Starr shared that he has been seeing posts on social media that glorify Homelander, which caused him some concern.

"We had a bunch of guys that we all kind of knocked them down a little, but on social media to say, 'This guy is not the hero of any story.' They were really glorifying him, they loved him. Which is surreal," he said.

"What I didn't expect was that people would be so conflicted around it and, you know, finding themselves finding empathy for this monster."

This is not the first time that Starr pushed back against the fans who have been glorifying Homelander's actions in The Boys.

While some fans have also compared Homelander to Donald Trump, the actor has also clarified that he didn't play the character in that way, as he wanted to give more depth, and he had to "be a real person built from the ground up."

What to Expect in The Boys Season 5

Starr is currently working on the fifth and final season of The Boys, which is set to premiere on Prime Video sometime next year.

The main cast is expected to return. Jensen Ackles is also expected to reprise the role of Soldier Boy, and he will return with his Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins.

Showrunner Eric Kripke teased a major Homelander storyline that they will explore during the fifth season.

"[Homelander] just wants a dad to love him and be proud of him. And without spoiling anything in Season 5, I would say, because the revelation that Soldier Boy was his father came so late in Season 3," he said.

"We never really got the chance to play it, but actually playing this father-son relationship between those two characters, there’s a lot of material to mine there and a lot of fraught emotional turns. So we’re able to dig into that in Season 5, and it has been a blast watching those two actors play off each other in the dailies."
