X-Men vs. Avengers: 5 Battles The Mutants Actually Won

X-Men vs Avengers

X-Men vs Avengers

The X-Men will finally join forces with the Avengers in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday to fight a common enemy, Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). However, there have been several occasions in Marvel history when these two superhero teams have clashed with one another.

In the Marvel comics, the groups often come into conflict because the X-Men’s priority of protecting mutants clashes with the Avengers’ broader mission of saving the world, often without regard for mutant affairs.

Sure, the Avengers are mighty, but they, too, can be defeated by the X-Men themselves. With that in mind, here are five times the mutants emerged victorious in battles against the Avengers.

Cable vs Captain America

Nothing can stop Cable from saving the future – not even Captain America. In Avengers: X-Sanctioned #1, he travels to the present to prevent an apocalyptic future from coming to pass, even if it means killing the Avengers first.

To lure Captain America, Cable kidnaps Falcon. They eventually meet in an abandoned warehouse, where the two engage in a brutal brawl.

The mutant and the Avenger trade evenly matched strength and power. However, when Captain America’s shield becomes lodged in the wall, Cable seizes the opportunity to overpower Cap.

With the First Avenger defeated, Cable gains the upper hand and the chance to bring them all down.

Colossus vs Spider-Man

Colossus vs Spider-Man

With his incredible strength and metal skin, Colossus is already a formidable foe – especially for a superhero like Spider-Man.

We’re not belittling Spidey, though. In fact, this is made clear when the two face off during the Avengers vs. X-Men event in AVX: VS #2, where Colossus is further empowered by the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak, granting him the strength of Juggernaut.

While Spider-Man does his best to dodge Colossus’ devastating strikes, his agility proves no match for the behemoth’s raw power.

Colossus’ earth-shattering clap instantly brings Spider-Man down. He even sends him flying like a rag doll and hurling robots at him.

Although Colossus gives the Web-Crawler a chance to surrender, Spider-Man refuses. However, just before facing certain death, he manages to escape after Daredevil urges him to retreat.

Emma Frost vs Thor

Emma Frost may stand little chance against an all-powerful Thor, but things change dramatically in AVX: VS #4 after she gains the power of the Phoenix Force.

In this Avengers vs. X-Men battle, Emma boldly engages in an epic clash with the God of Thunder.

While Thor manages to shatter Emma like glass when she assumes her diamond form to further increase her strength, the Phoenix Force allows her to survive and her diamond shards tear through her enemy like bullets.

Once her body reforms, Emma delivers a relentless assault, eventually overpowering Thor and leaving him unconscious.

Wolverine vs the Hulk

Wolverine and the Hulk have always been pitted against each other, but Savage Wolverine #5 features one of their most epic battles, in which the Canucklehead wins brutally.

In this issue, Wolverine encounters the Hulk while on a mission in the prehistoric Savage Land, investigating a potential alien threat.

The two immediately clash without any reason. However, a giant gorilla soon joins the fight, attacking the Hulk.

Distracted by the new threat, Wolverine gets the perfect opportunity to strike the Hulk, leaping onto the Avenger and stabbing him in the brain with his claws.

Angel vs Iron Man

Angel vs Iron Man

Angel and Iron Man face each other in Tales of Suspense #49 twice, and on both occasions, the X-Men comes out on top.

The first battle occurs when the Man in the Can tries to chase the mutant into the sky after Angel is exposed to radiation from an atomic blast, which turns him evil and sends him on a rampage.

However, Iron Man’s rocket boots run out of fuel, causing him to plummet to the ground.

The two have a rematch, but once again, his rocket boots fail him. This time, Iron Man is at a higher altitude, and his fall would surely be fatal.

Thankfully, Angel snaps out of his evil state just in time, saving the Armored Avenger and ultimately making him the winner of this encounter.
