Since The Boys became a pop culture icon thanks to the Prime Video show, fans have debated one question: What if Homelander fought Superman?
While the community has been conflicted with thousands of votes divided between the two, Antony Starr had a confident opinion.
During a recent interview with Screenrant, he claimed that Homelander would beat Superman in a fight. Whether this mighty battle would occur is up to the show's creators. But if it does, we would be backing Homelander as well.
This article explains why Homelander would defeat the DC golden boy in a fight.
Homelander is a Sociopath
This wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who has seen the show. Homelander is a complete sociopath with no regard for anyone around him. We’ve seen him blow up a plane, threaten to kill civilians and drink Madelyn’s breast milk. All in all, proving that he is an insanely twisted person.
On the other hand, Superman is your average good guy. So, Homelander can quickly get the upper hand on him by being a menace. The Boys’ showrunner Eric Kripke seemed to agree with this. In an interview with The Illuminerdi, he said:
“I mean it’s definitely Homelander because Superman has morals and Homelander is like a hardcore sociopath. So, it’s like Homelander has no problem ripping off Superman’s testicles, like zero. And Superman’s gonna be like punching above the belt. So, it’s kind of not a contest.”
Homelander Plays Dirty
Superman has always been one to play by the books. This act of being a textbook superhero is a considerable weakness when going against someone as evil as Homelander. Antony Starr said:
“There’s no Kryptonite factor, and Homie would fight so dirty. He’s the [type to go], “Oh, you got me!” as he goes down and then comes up and throws sand in your eyes. He’s the dirty dude, man.”
“Whereas Superman is always like, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t do that. Oh, there’s innocent children that might get hurt.’ Homie’s going to human shield himself with the kids.”
We can't help but agree with Starr. Homelander is easily one of the dirtiest players in the game. This gives him perhaps his biggest advantage against Superman, other than kryptonite. This brings us to our next reason.
Kryptonite
Unlike Superman, Homelander doesn’t have a weakness as huge as Kryptonite. Yes, he has a son, which could be considered a weakness. But even Superman has Lois Lane. So, in a battle of weaknesses, Homelander becomes stronger.
While it may be hard for him to obtain kryptonite, if Homelander could get his hands on this rare green mineral, it would mean game over for Superman. Since they are almost equal on the power scale, he could easily use it to kill the Kryptonian.
Killer Instinct
We’ve seen it time and time again: Superman hesitates to kill. Even when the Kryptonian defeats his rivals, he hesitates to land the killing blow because of his wholesome morals. This no-kill rule is a massive drawback for Superman. The only recent notable scene where Superman lands a killing blow was in Man of Steel, which also sparked a lot of controversy.
On the contrary, Homelander has always been trigger-happy. He kills people just for the fun of it. Be it civilians, his rivals, or even his friends. So, he wouldn’t have a second thought of landing the final blow on Superman.
One Epic Battle
While Superman inspired Homelander, he’s an entirely different 'hero'. They might share similar powers but are opposites in terms of personality. Putting them together in the same universe would be one of the most chaotic events ever witnessed.
Superman relies on his powers, while Homelander uses his twisted brain. With the help of his menacing thoughts, he’ll find a way to bring Superman down.
It wouldn’t be easy for Homelander to win. He would have to fight dirtier than ever, whether by using a human shield or kryptonite. But, in the end, he will be victorious.
