Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) may have been the fan favourite as far as The Acolyte’s run is concerned, but the latest episode, Choice, just revealed one of Sol’s darkest secrets—that he and Torbin essentially started the incident that killed Osha and Mae’s entire family.
Fans are currently reeling from the revelation that Sol may not be the best of the Jedi as they initially thought, and everyone has been discussing exactly what happened when Sol and Torbin came over to abduct the twins.
Why Did Sol Kill Mother Aniseya?
Sol and Torbin had come to the coven’s hideout with different intentions. Sol wanted Osha to come with him and train her as a padawan, while Torbin wanted to get the twins as proof so they could finally leave the planet and go back to Coruscant.
Mother Aniseya and Koril were there to confront Sol and Torbin, but weapons ended up being drawn, and Sol suddenly stabbed Aniseya when she started using her powers.
Based on what fans saw, Sol looked confused and reacted rashly. It was already established that they had no idea about the coven and its Force powers, and so far, the only thing they’ve seen the coven do is possess young Torbin.
Besides that, Sol had already referred to the coven’s powers as ‘dark magic,’ to which Indara corrected him about how many practices vary from culture to culture. From that point, fans can surmise that Sol already had a bias against the witches, and when he saw Aniseya doing what could have been an attack, he panicked and stabbed her.
Was This Foreshadowed?
Previous episodes already implied that Sol was hiding something, and this point was driven by Qimir when he revealed himself. It’s also worth noting that Yord, who was Sol’s underling, was also very trigger-happy with his lightsaber and had to be frequently cautioned by Sol and Padawan Jecki.
As of now, it’s already been made clear what happened on Brendok, but many questions remain unanswered. For one, where did Mother Koril go after she turned into mist? Her body never showed up with the others, so she must have escaped. Most importantly, why is the revelation that Mae and Osha were artificially created such a big deal?
It seemed that the coven had big plans for them before they were interrupted by the Jedi, and it was pretty ominous when Mae repeated the line, “Everyone must walk through fear. Everyone must be sacrificed to fulfil their destiny,” to Master Indara.
While there is a clear comparison to how Jedi treat their take on the Force as the ‘right’ way, it’s possible that the coven did have nefarious plans for the children after all. Then again, with one episode left, fans are hoping that all the major threads will be tied up nicely, with only a few loose ends left to pick up for a second season—should it get greenlit, that is.
