German director, screenwriter, author, and actor Werner Herzog has considered taking a break from his acting career because of Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
Herzog just recently spoke in an interview with Oscar-winning director Asif Kapadia today as part of the BFI at Home Series on the BFI YouTube channel (via Variety), and during the interview, The Mandalorian star expressed his intention to retire from acting.
According to Herzog, the success of Jon Favreau's Star Wars series has gotten him thinking about hanging up his acting career.
"I have done a lot more acting recently, and I have to review it, because it takes away too much attention from the real things that I'm doing," Herzog told Kapadia during the interview.
When Herzog says "real things," he means his work as a filmmaker. For those who aren't familiar with Herzog's repertoire of films, the filmmaker has directed twenty fiction feature films, seven short movies, 31 documentary feature films eight documentary short films, and episodes of television series between the years 1962 and 2019.
Right now though, Herzog's been getting a lot of attention for his role as The Client in Star Wars: The Mandalorian. As much as any actor would welcome attention and success that comes with a great series, Herzog seems to be gearing to return to his roots as a filmmaker.
Of course, Star Wars fans will no longer be seeing The Client in the next season of The Mandalorian. After all, Herzog's character was killed towards the end of the series and now the story has moved on with Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) being the primary villain of the show.
