- Quick Answer: Pluribus Season 2 is confirmed and currently in development, but creator Vince Gilligan revealed production and post-production delays mean a return will take a while.
Pluribus Season 2 might have been ordered alongside Season 1, but fans might have to wait for a long while before it finally happens.
The first season was released in November 2025 to critical acclaim, with critics praising creator Vince Gilligan’s writing and direction, as well as lead star Rhea Seehorn’s great performance.
But as many are now waiting to see Carol’s efforts to reverse the Joining continue, Gilligan gives a disappointing update about Pluribus Season 2.
When Is Pluribus Season 2 Coming Out?

The first season of Pluribus was a great success for Apple TV, with its first two episodes breaking the platform’s viewership record for a drama series launch and even surpassing the success of the Severance Season 2 premiere.
In fact, it became the most-streamed original series in the US and the most-watched series in the platform’s history, defeating not just Severance but another Apple TV hit, Ted Lasso.
But as the second season’s scripts are still being worked on and production does not have a definite start date yet, it may be “a long time” before it finally happens.
“I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to say, but it's going to be a long time. It's going to be a while. That is not on purpose. That is not to make the fans frustrated with us,” Gilligan told Decider. “That is my least favorite thing about the process, is how long it takes. But it takes what it takes because it takes us quite a while to figure out this very complex story.”
True enough, the show tells a different kind of story, with the rest of humanity turning into a peaceful and cooperative hive mind free of war and suffering, though at the cost of their free will and identity.
With that said, although Gilligan revealed that they had already figured out what the second season would be about and were preparing to start filming, it would still take “a long time” because it’s a story about a worldwide event.
“Do we have to range all over the world, which is fun, but it takes a lot of planning, takes a lot of scheduling,” he continued. “And then the post-production process takes a lot longer than people think because, for instance, in every shot, we have to erase the background. … There's always some car in the background that an artist has to digitally erase or someone walking in the background. The visual effects, which most of them you would never know are visual effects, take forever, so it takes quite a while.”
As Gilligan’s mom is also waiting for Pluribus Season 2, he assures fans that they’re “working” on it “as fast as we can” and asks everyone to “please bear with us.”
“Don't hold your breath; it's going to be a while,” he admitted.
What to Expect from Pluribus Season 2?

The first season of Pluribus ended with Carol finally realizing that what was happening was real and that Zosia (Karolina Wydra) was no longer a human and couldn’t be a plausible life partner.
This all started when Zosia told Carol she only had a month before they used her frozen eggs to harvest stem cells, which would eventually turn her into one of the “Others.”
As Carol left the paradise she built with Zosia, she returned to her hometown of Albuquerque to meet Manousos (Carlos-Manuel Vesga), who, just like her, is trying to solve the mystery of what happened by studying various radio frequencies in an attempt to crack a code.
With that said, the second season may see Carol and Manousos use the radio signal to discover who’s behind the alien virus, how to stop it, and whether it can be reversed.
As Vince Gilligan previously revealed that they already had a “pretty good idea” of where the show would go next, the creative team shared their thoughts on what Manousos’ failed experiment might mean.
"An experiment within the scientific method, generally, moves through failure, and it keeps moving through failure,” writer/executive producer Gordon Smith told The Hollywood Reporter. “You learn more from saying, 'That's not right. It did not stop them from being joined, but I did learn something. So what did I learn?' What he learned and what he can do with it is hopefully going to be brought out in season 2."
So far, there is no word on when Pluribus Season 2 will be released, but Season 1 is available to stream on Apple TV.
