A cast member from Better Call Saul made a surprise voice cameo in the recently aired episode 5 of Pluribus, reuniting with star Rhea Seehorn.

The new Apple TV sci-fi series has been taking the world by storm since its premiere earlier this month. Considering that Vince Gilligan created the project, some fans have been wondering whether stars from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul will also make an appearance in the series alongside Seehorn as a cameo/easter egg, or nod to the other Gilligan universe.

Patrick Fabian, who famously played Howard Hamlin in Better Call Saul, made a voice cameo appearance in Pluribus episode 5 as the Others' phone answering service.

He is the first main cast member from the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul universe (aside from star Seehorn) who made an appearance in the new Apple TV series, albeit in a voice cameo.

As it turns out, when the scene was filmed, Seehorn had no idea that her former co-star was the voice behind the answering service as the crew kept it a secret from her until the cameras rolled.

"They surprised me. I did not know about this," the actress told TV Guide. "They were hoping to get some kind of blooper take from me, but I was so terrified to mess up a take. Not terrified, but I just didn’t want to — because I knew it was a long take, too, the first time she hears it."

Seehorn continued, "I don’t know which take they actually use, but I think if you got one of those psychologists or psychiatrists that study micro facial muscle changes, I’m pretty sure you could see me go, What? Patrick? But then I tried to cover and play the scene. They called cut, and I started laughing and ran out and said, ‘That’s Patrick! You got Patrick!’ And they said they’d been sitting on it for a long time, just to screw with me."

While it remains to be seen whether Fabian will make a physical on-screen appearance at some point, fans were still happy that he was able to show up in the series and are now hoping that more Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul alumni will appear in future episodes.

What is Pluribus About?

Pluribus follows fantasy romance author Carol Sturka (played by Seehorn), one of the very few people immune to an extraterrestrial virus that has transformed the world's population into a peaceful and optimistic hive mind. She attempts to save the world with the humanity that is still left.

Aside from Seehorn, the cast includes Polish-American actress Karolina Wydra, who plays Zosia, and Colombian actor Carlos Manuel Vesga, who plays Manousos. The guest cast includes Miriam Shor, Samba Schutte, Peter Bergman, Karan Soni, and Jeff Hiller.

New episodes of Pluribus will be released every Friday on Apple TV until December 26, when the first season finale is scheduled to air. There are nine episodes in total.
