The hedge knight himself, Peter Claffey, recently sat down for a Television Academy Q&A to discuss the future season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Claffey teased that despite the odds of having Tanselle return to the series, season 2 will shed light on Dunk's magic with the ladies.
Dunk Star Teases What to Expect in Season 2's The Sworn Sword

"It's totally different," Duck actor Claffey told the outlet, "The Sworn Sword is my favorite novella of the three in the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms book. It's a tragic love story. It's a completely different job for Dunk to navigate. And I suppose he has his first kind of experience with... his first kind of experience with kind of trying to navigate talking and chatting to women, which he's terrible at, and trying to establish a work relationship with a woman, which he's absolutely awful at."
Considering that Tanselle and Dunk's growing potential romance was not expected to hit fans the way it did in the first season, perhaps season 2 plans on having them meet one another once more to explore beyond George R.R. Martin's novel series. In fact, Claffey admitted that they "didn't think we'd be able to ever hit the level of quality of season 1."
"It's been so much fun to shoot, and so far, everybody that's come on has been just amazing," Claffey added, "But the people that have come in, I mean, people have been confirmed now, as well as Lucy Boyton and Babou Ceesay. And yeah, just people have come in and just been incredible, incredible."
Could Tanselle Return in Season 2 for Dunk's Romance Quest?

Tanselle actress Tanzyn Crawford previously expressed her eagerness to return for season 2, as she supports the spark growing between her character and Ser Dunk. Claffey's words are crucial to this "tragic love story" news, as it signals that there may be more to Tanselle and Ser Dunk than a fateful encounter.
Although fans should be warned that a "tragic love story" could still mean no happy ending for the couple.
Keep in mind that in Martin's original novellas, Dunk did have romance, but on account of having fleeting, awkward ones, given his full dedication to fulfill his knightly duty.
In The Hedge Knight, Dunk develops a quick, tender affection for the puppeteer Tanselle, while The Sworn Sword will see Dunk share a brief yet intense connection with Lady Rohanne.
While A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 has yet to confirm its release date, HBO plans to release a new season every year, which means the series could potentially return sometime in 2027. Stay tuned!
