Warner Bros. has announced the official title for the highly anticipated Game of Thrones movie. Here's what fans can expect in the franchise's jump to the big screen.

Since then, fans have been wondering what they have in store and what storyline they will explore.

In their recent CinemaCon presentation, Warner Bros. announced that the Game of Thrones movie that they are currently developing is titled "Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest."

While no release window has been set yet for the project, the studio noted that it is part of its "2027 and beyond" slate.

The Game of Thrones movie will center on the original conqueror, Aegon I Targaryen, a foundational figure from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.

As the dragon-riding dynasty that defined the political landscape of Westeros, the Targaryens (and their penchant for keeping power within the family) serve as the focal point in both the original Game of Thrones series and its expanding prequel universe, currently airing on HBO.

The story of Aegon I Targaryen is meticulously detailed in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a historical chronicle of the dynasty's volatile reign. As the first monarch to unify the warring Seven Kingdoms, Aegon famously forged the Iron Throne from the blades of his defeated foes. He ruled Westeros alongside his two sister-queens, Visenya and Rhaenys, establishing a lineage of kings (many of whom shared his name) that would hold power for nearly three centuries.

No director is currently attached to the project. Andor writer Beau Willimon is currently working on the script. It remains unknown whether the producers of the HBO shows will be involved.

What's Next in the Game of Thrones Franchise on TV

The third season of House of the Dragon is currently scheduled to air on HBO and HBO Max later this summer. It is already renewed for a fourth season, which will serve as its final one, and is expected to be released in 2028.

Meanwhile, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which premiered earlier this year, is already renewed for a second season and is currently filming. It is set to release sometime in 2027.

There are no plans yet to develop more Game of Thrones spinoff shows on HBO, but it is still the top franchise on the network due to its continuing success and pop culture relevance.
