While Daenerys Targaryen faced her demise in the final episode of Game of Thrones, fans are still hoping that they will see Emilia Clarke return in another franchise project.
As long-time fans know, Clarke made her mainstream breakthrough in the fantasy drama series as the iconic character. With the Game of Thrones franchise continuing to live on, there is hope that she will be seen again, whether it's in a prequel spinoff project or an animated project. However, that seems to be unlikely now based on her recent comments. Here's why.
Why Emilia Clarke Is Not Open to Game of Thrones Return

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Clarke dismissed the idea of doing another fantasy project, including a potential return in the Game of Thrones franchise.
"You’re highly unlikely to see me get on a dragon, or even in the same frame as a dragon, ever again," she said.
The Emmy-nominated actress explained that it's all because she wanted to have a different direction in her career after her stint in Game of Thrones, which turned her into a global star.
"It forced me to answer some questions I probably could have put off answering for another 10 years. [It took a while for me] to realize that I could try and get some autonomy over my choices, my work. So much of my career didn’t reflect my taste, I just sort of shot out of a cannon."
This is why Clarke signed on to star in the new period spy drama series, Ponies, which will showcase a different side of her, and far from what she has done in Game of Thrones.
"I was definitely, like… a lead in a TV show? I know what that commitment feels like," she said.
Since Game of Thrones ended, Clarke has indeed not done any fantasy project. The closest one is the MCU series Secret Invasion, which is classified as superhero/science-fiction action.
What's Next in the Game of Thrones Franchise
The new Game of Thrones series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is slated for release on HBO and HBO Max this Sunday, January 18.
Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, the series will follow two unlikely heroes who wander Westeros: a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg.
Taking place in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
The first season will consist of six episodes. The main cast includes Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, Danny Webb, Sam Spruell, Shaun Thomas, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Tanzyn Crawford, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Daniel Monks.
