Butcher, Hughie, Starlight, Frenchie, Kimiko, and MM are set to return in The Boys season 4, but before the Prime series' anticipated comeback, here's a little recap of the wildest things that happened in The Boys seasons 1 to 3!

CONTENT SPOILERS: This article contains spoilers forĀ Prime Video'sĀ The BoysĀ season 4, proceed with caution.

How The Boys Season 1 Fueled More Fire to Butcher

What started as Hughie's revenge story against A-Train for killing his girlfriend in the first episode had snowballed into a whole series past a third season. (I mean, who wouldn't, watching your girlfriend die after a Supe literally ran through her?)

Butcher had his own murderous intent against Homelander in mind. He had been searching for his wife, Becca, whom he's convinced is still alive somewhere.

Butcher opened Hughie's eyes that the Supes they've been seeing on TV are not heroes, but rather actors who claim to do the city good, despite being the most problematic public figures behind the scenes.

Ever since he met Billy Butcher and his "boys", Frenchie and MM (Mother's Milk), Hughie has committed the most atrocious things he never thought he'd be able to do if it hadn't been for the justice he was seeking from Vought.

Hughie murdered Translucent by pushing the button of the bomb that was placed in his rectum, he hacked into Popclaw's (A-Train's girlfriend) security cameras and blackmailed her into exposing where they could get more compound V, which led to A-Train executing Popclaw before evidence leaks out.

Compound V was the most crucial plot point here, considering that this was initially an enhancement drug to help A-Train speed up more.

However, this is also when the Boys find out that Compound V is the reason why the Supes existed in the first place, which poses a threat to Vought and their heroes' rep, of course.

Once the last episode of season 1 premiered, we only get to find out the truth: Becca is alive and has been all this time. The catch? She has a Supe son with Homelander.

What The Boys Season 2 Snowballed Into

The Boys season 2 still had unanswered questions, despite what the first season had already confirmed: What happened between Becca and Homelander? Why is Vought making more Supes based on Compound V? How could the Seven turn to normal?

First of all, Homelander sexually assaulted Becca, who miraculously birthed their son, even though that wasn't supposed to be possible. Since then, all Homelander's been trying to do is "get to know" his son's powers while keeping Becca hostage from Butcher.

While Vought has been trying to fix the Seven by putting on new Supes on the team, Stormfront isn't the ideal Supe they've been waiting for. Starlight believed she could help her take down the company. On the contrary, Stormfront is not all about justice.

All this time, she had been the first successful experimented Supe under Vought. She's much older than she looks. Homelander had grown even more attracted to her as their sexcapades boosted his ego for being the "perfect image" for Vought.

The company had also been doing a secret project from the public eye. Since Compound V ideally works when injected in infants, they've been holding experiments in hopes of rectifying the low survival rate of the serum in adults.

Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned when the Boys intervened, and let the tested Supes lose, some of which killed themselves when their powers backfired. But who's to say this is the end of it?

As much as Becca warned Butcher that Homelander would kill them if he found out they escaped and planned on taking her kid, Ryan, back, they didn't stay put. When Ryan tries to save his mother from Stormfront, he ends up burning her and killing Becca.

However, don't rest your feet back up yet, another mystery has been solved. Remember the head-popping scene in the courtroom? We found the culprit. It's Victoria Neuman, the woman hoping to run as the future VP.

What The Boys Season 3 Leaves Us With For Season 4

Taking a step back to what The Boys season 3 brought us, it's clear that Butcher is not planning on backing down from the fight. Yes, even if Homelander had indeed killed off a citizen in front of the crowd.

Now that Homelander's notorious reputation keeps the people applauding him, especially Todd (present boyfriend of MM's ex-wife), this could only mean worse if he does end up becoming President running alongside head-popping villain Victoria.

Even though he joined the CIA to keep tabs on a couple of Supes in the city, he finds out that V24, a drug that could lend him superpowers for 24 hours per dose, is all he needs to murder Homelander somehow.

As usual, this doesn't come without consequences. V24, as Starlight found out, could turn his and Hughie's brains into Swiss cheese. Instead of telling Hughie the truth, Butcher being Butcher, he locks the guy in a rest stop and teams up with Soldier Boy to finally hunt down Homelander.

Unfortunately, they don't succeed. This leaves Butcher with possibly 12 months to live, which also limits the chances of keeping his promise to Becca never to let Ryan go into the dark side. But what happens now that season 4 seemingly shows Ryan siding with Homelander, instead?
