While Black Noir II has been involved in scripted saves and missions, he faces off with The Boys for the first time in Episode 7, coming from what he learned about the original Noir.
"In episode six, Deep gives Noir a heart-to-heart pep talk. He relays that killing is something that really turned on old Noir," shares actor Nathan Mitchell in an interview. "In that scene in the Flatiron, he is beginning to lean into who old Noir was. And the more he commits to that side of Noir, the more of a threat he becomes to the Boys."
Unfortunately, despite his display of fight-and-flight abilities, his efforts fall short during the encounter, getting caught off guard by the team’s will and resistance. He’s likely surprised that a group of (mostly) humans can stand up against superpowered individuals.
“Just because he’s a threat doesn’t mean he’s a particularly menacing threat. He is working his way there and, as we can see from that scene, he’s not used to getting shot at!” says Mitchell. “He’s like, “I wasn’t expecting this,” and he can barely handle it. He is still a new kid on the block in a lot of ways.”
The odds were on their side initially, as the Deep took on an out-of-practice Starlight and Noir faced a cancer-stricken Billy Butcher. The tides turned when reinforcements came, with Mother’s Milk shooting Noir relentlessly out of the window of their headquarters.
However, not all is lost for The Seven as the bros finally unmask who the real leak in Vought is.
Despite Noir’s troubles completing a crucial mission, Mitchell teases that his character will continue to embrace his killer side under Homelander’s wing.
“Season five is going to be chaotic. We’re in a mad dash to the finish line, and the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been. New Noir is probably going to be even more comfortable with killing. He’s growing into his role, so he’s more of a threat to the Boys now,” he shares.
But first, whether Noir II gets past the Season 4 finale remains to be seen when the episode streams on Thursday on Prime Video.
