The planned Arkham Asylum TV series has been scrapped at Max after years of being stuck in development.
Warner Bros., Max, and DC have been developing a TV series set in the infamous Gotham City hospital that was originally intended as a spinoff series of The Batman before James Gunn came on board and decided to turn it into a DCU project.
However, it underwent several changes behind the scenes as different showrunners were initially attached to the project before Antonio Campos joined and spearheaded the latest iteration.
Arkham Asylum TV Series No Longer Moving Forward
It was recently confirmed that Max is no longer moving forward with the Arkham Asylum TV series.
There is no official reason stated regarding why the planned Batman series is no longer happening except that Campos' version will not proceed.
It is still likely that they will be developing a new project in the future that is also set in Arkham Asylum with a different showrunner involved.
While the news might be disappointing for DC fans, they should still expect more Batman-related media in the future as DC Studios is working on The Brave and the Bold movie while Matt Reeves is also preparing for the highly-anticipated The Batman sequel.
This fall, The Batman spinoff series The Penguin is also slated to premiere on Max. It will focus on Colin Farrell's fan-favorite titular villain and explore his ruling of the Gotham City criminal underworld following the events of the first film.
Considering the popularity of Batman and his rogues' gallery, a canceled Arkham Asylum series should not indicate any slowdown in content related to the Caped Crusader, and it won't be surprising if DC Studios announces a different Batman series project in the future to replace the scrapped Arkham Asylum series.
