  • Quick Answer: Yes, Xolo Maridueña is officially returning as Blue Beetle in Man of Tomorrow, marking the character's official entry into the main DCU continuity.

Xolo Maridueña will be making his return as Blue Beetle in the upcoming DCU film Man of Tomorrow, a few years after his solo movie's release.

Fans have been looking forward to the Superman sequel, which is currently in production. Following the massive success of the first film last year, there is a lot of anticipation for its release and curiosity about how it will expand the DCU as it is set to introduce more characters.

Now, it looks like the film will bring back a beloved hero from the DCEU era.

TheWrap confirmed that Xolo Maridueña will be reprising the role of Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle in Man of Tomorrow, marking his official reintroduction in the DCU.

It remains unknown whether his appearance will be a proper supporting role or just a cameo. The film is expected to feature other DCU heroes outside the core Superman characters.

This is exciting news for fans who have been looking forward to seeing Blue Beetle again on the screen, especially since James Gunn confirmed a few years ago that the character will be included in the DCU.

While Blue Beetle is technically part of the DCEU franchise, the film was standalone enough to make it easier to be integrated into the DCU since it doesn't have any connection to the other DCEU movies.

When it was released in 2023, Blue Beetle ended up being a box office disappointment as it only grossed a little over $130 million worldwide. However, it found life in streaming as it became one of the most viewed titles on HBO Max when it was released on the platform.

Not only that, the film's box office numbers did not stop Gunn and Peter Safran from integrating the superhero into the new DCU. An animated series centering on the character is reportedly in the works at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.

Man of Tomorrow will serve as the fourth feature film in the DCU franchise, following SupermanSupergirl, and Clayface. It is slated for release in theaters on July 9, 2027.

David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are confirmed to reprise their respective roles of Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. Just like the first movie, James Gunn is also serving as the director and writer of the project.

Other cast members who are expected to return in the film are Frank Grillo (Rick Flag, Sr.), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), and Milly Alcock (Supergirl).

Aaron Pierre is confirmed to reprise the role of John Stewart from Lanterns, while German actor Lars Eidinger has been cast to play Brainiac. Adria Arjona, Matthew Lillard, and Andre Royo are also part of the cast.

While most of the plot details are under wraps, Gunn teased that the film "is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat."
