A TV series centering on the iconic Batman villain Poison Ivy is reportedly in the works. But will it be part of the DCU or Matt Reeves' The Batman universe?

For the last few years, we've seen the Batman universe adapt into various iterations on screen. The DCU franchise has been exploring some of the characters in the Batman corner of the universe, while Reeves' The Batman franchise is expanding with an upcoming sequel and The Penguin spinoff series.

Now, it looks like one of the fan-favorite rogues' gallery will be getting her own series.

Veteran journalist Jeff Sneider revealed on The Hot Mic podcast that a Poison Ivy TV series is currently in development at DC Studios.

However, this project will be part of Matt Reeves' The Batman universe, making it another spinoff series in the franchise following The Penguin, and it won't be included in the official DCU slate.

There are no details on which writer is attached to develop the idea or whether an actress has been cast to play the villain. We can safely say that Reeves is involved as an executive producer and helps shepherd the project.

So far, neither DC Studios nor Matt Reeves has commented on the reports that the project is in development.

In case you're still not familiar with the character, Poison Ivy is a former botanist who became a Gotham City ecoterrorist. Connected to an elemental force called the "Green," she can control all plant life and fights to protect nature from humanity at any cost.

While this often puts her at odds with Batman, Ivy isn't always a straightforward villain in the comics lore. She sometimes acts as an antihero and is the main love interest of Harley Quinn in later iterations.

For now, stay tuned for more news and updates regarding the development of the project, but if it ends up being true, it will be the first live-action iteration of the character in several years.
