The recently-aired first season finale of The Acolyte revealed a surprising connection between Vernestra Rwoh and Qimir.
One of the biggest mysteries of the series is Qimir's backstory on why he became a Sith. While they haven't explored his origins yet, the sixth episode suggested that there is a tragic story behind his turn to the dark side.
Some fans have speculated that Vernestra might have been Qimir's master back when he was a Jedi based on the small hints that they showed in past episodes and, now, it looks like we have the confirmation that we've been waiting for.
The Acolyte Season 1 Finale Hints at Vernestra and Qimir Connection
The first season finale of The Acolyte suggested that Vernestra might have been Qimir's former Jedi master based on two pivotal moments that happened in the episode.
Around the same time as Sol was killed by Osha, Vernestra arrived in Brendok with the other Jedi Knights who were accompanying her. As soon as she stepped on the planet, she sensed Qimir's presence and was shocked that he was still alive.
Qimir quickly wore his cortosis helmet after sensing Vernestra's realization of his presence on the planet and escaped.
Near the end of the episode, Vernestra makes another reference to Qimir while talking to Mae, whose memory was wiped by Qimir after Osha agreed to train under him and prevent the Jedi from knowing their existence.
She tasked Mae to help find her former pupil "before he turned to evil," likely referring to Qimir.
This suggests that Vernestra and Qimir have a past connection and the Jedi Master may have something to do with the latter becoming the Sith.
However, fans need to wait until the second season before they'll learn about Qimir's backstory and the tragic reason why he became a Sith and has scars on his back.
"Because it's Osha's story, you don't know much about the Stranger's background and you're not really going to learn much about it," showrunner Leslye Headland teased in an interview weeks ago.
"But there are a bunch of things in episode 6 and episode 8 that are really big clues as to why he is the way he is and why his philosophy is the way that it is."
It is interesting to see what kind of relationship Vernestra and Qimir have in the past and hopefully, it will all be answered in the second season as they seemingly promised.
All episodes of The Acolyte season 1 are streaming on Disney+.
