Avengers: Doomsday has seemingly teased the fate of the X-Men in its third trailer through an ominous exchange between Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Erik Lehnsherr (Ian McKellen). However, it appears that Magneto’s words are far more important than fans initially realized.

Undeniably, among the four teasers Marvel has released for Doomsday, the X-Men–focused trailer is the darkest and most intense – both nostalgic and hair-raising – hinting at the future of mutants in the MCU.

However, it also appears that Magneto may be teasing the appearance of a major Marvel character in Doomsday: Lady Death.

What Do Magneto’s Words in Avengers: Doomsday Mean?

The X-Men Doomsday teaser opens with Magneto’s chilling line, “Death comes for us all.” The trailer’s setting is later revealed to be grim, as the Xavier Mansion appears to lie in ruins.

Professor X and his longtime frenemy, Magneto, are seen talking about death, with Xavier emphasizing the importance of who they choose to be when they close their eyes and when the end finally comes.

Cyclops (James Marsden) then appears, unleashing his optic blast as he falls to his knees, with Sentinels looming behind him.

So, what does this mean for the MCU? Magneto’s line is not new to the Marvel universe. In fact, it was heard recently with the introduction of Lady Death (Aubrey Plaza) in Agatha All Along.

The phrase was delivered when Lady Death claimed Lili Calderu’s (Patti LuPone) soul following her sacrifice.

Debuting as Rio, a green witch whose true form is a skull-faced cosmic being, Lady Death is the embodiment of death – thus the name.

She ensures the natural cycle of life and death and is responsible for reaping souls. As a powerful neutral entity overseeing the natural end of life, Lady Death may play a major role in the MCU’s expanding cosmic narrative.

Lady Death

With the MCU’s soft reset and the upcoming X-Men reboot, Doomsday is believed to feature major character deaths.

Given the possibility of mass destruction and an end-of-everything scenario, it would not be far-fetched for Lady Death to return in the new Avengers film.

Marvel has been subtly referencing Lady Death’s appearance since Phase One, and now that she has been properly introduced, the studio may finally put the character to use.

Doomsday is also expected to feature massive cosmic events following the introduction of Galactus (Ralph Ineson) in 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the arrival of Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.).

As a major figure in Marvel’s cosmic mythology, it would come as no surprise if Lady Death plays a role in Doomsday.

While her return has not yet been confirmed, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously revealed that more characters set to appear in Doomsday have yet to be announced.

For now, fans will have to wait and see if Lady Death will be part of them. Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
