Marvel Studios has released the third teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, featuring the X-Men and exciting fans worldwide.

The original X-Men stars, from James Marsden to Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, have reprised their iconic roles as Professor X, Magneto, and Cyclops.

But beyond the hype this teaser brings, it hints at a sinister history for these much-beloved mutants. So, what does the Doomsday teaser reveals about the X-Men?

Does the Avengers: Doomsday Teaser Hint at a Dark Future for the X-Men?

The latest Doomsday teaser opens on a devastated Xavier Mansion, with Charles Xavier / Professor X tending to an ailing Magneto.

Sitting among the ruins, the longtime rivals speak to one another, delivering haunting lines that seemingly hint at a dark future.

“Death comes for us all… it’s all I know for sure. The question isn’t, are you prepared to die? The question is: who would you be when you close your eyes?”

The clip then cuts to Scott Summers / Cyclops in his comic-accurate blue-and-yellow suit, falling to his knees as he unleashes a massive optic blast. Looming behind him appear to be the deadliest X-Men villains: Sentinels.

What initially look like towering pillars amid the burning ruins of what seems to be the Xavier School are believed to be the Sentinels’ massive robotic legs.

Compared to their appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), the scale of these machines suggests that the MCU versions will be larger and more comic-accurate.

With Bolivar Trask’s classic mutant-killing robots on the loose – combined with Xavier and Magneto’s ominous dialogue, the decimated school, and Cyclops’ desperate stand – things don’t look good for the X-Men in Doomsday.

Doomsday may truly spell “doom” for the X-Men. With Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom positioned as the Multiverse Saga’s ultimate antagonist, he could wipe out numerous characters – much like what Thanos (Josh Brolin) did in Avengers: Infinity War.

Looking at the heroes assembling for the film, Fox’s X-Men may be on the chopping block, especially as Marvel Studios moves forward with a reboot that is expected to introduce an all-new lineup of mutants.

With that being said, Magneto may finally meet his fate. As one of the last major figures still tied to the Foxverse, fans could see him in one final act of redemption or villainy.

Given his appearance in the teaser, he may not survive Doomsday, and his demise could help pave the way for a new generation of mutants.

Another key bridge between the old and the new is Professor X. Like Magneto, he is a cornerstone of the X-Men franchise and may deliver one last heroic act by surviving long enough to ensure the mutants’ future.

By the looks of it, Doomsday may honor Magneto and Professor X one last time, while Cyclops could become the leader of the new X-Men, setting the stage for the MCU’s reboot.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
