While we're all excited for Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow movie, most of us would have been content if Avengers: Endgame would have been her last appearance. Previous films established her enough, thanks to a fun personality and a couple of flashbacks to her dark past. Yeah, she's not the best character in Marvel history but is compelling and likable enough to make us feel bad when she died.
Speaking with Good Morning America, Johansson stated that she would have been happy with her character's ending in Avengers: Endgame. Now that she's getting a standalone film, the actress is hoping that it will elevate the genre, which is what all superhero films should want to do. If it's half as good as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it will have overachieved.
Here's her full response:
"I would've been happy to end it at Endgame and walk away - I felt like I was proud of the work that we had all done together. But the only reason to do this standalone would be to elevate the genre in some way."
Black Widow will be set after Captain America: Civil War but before the big events of Avengers: Infinity War. Yelena Belova, The Red Guardian, and Taskmaster will also be making their big MCU debuts in this film. The movie will be coming out on May 1, 2020.
