It’s no mystery that Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys has been taking a lot of liberties with the source material, but many major plot points, including the characters and events like Herogasm, still make it to the show.
What’s interesting is that Amazon has released a teaser poster for the final season of the show, which teases the death of one major character based on the comics.
How the Teaser Poster for The Boys Hints at Homelander’s Death
Fans may have to wait two years before the release of the final season of The Boys, but the finale of Season 4 has also come with a teaser poster for Season 5 featuring Homelander walking toward the White House. Check this out:
Though it does signify a considerable change in the status quo for The Boys, this imagery also has huge implications based on the comic—specifically, the death of Homelander in the hands of Butcher.
How Does Homelander Die in the Comic?
In the comics, Homelander eventually starts a coup against the US government, taking over the White House and killing everyone inside it, including the president.
During this chapter, it’s revealed that Black Noir is actually a clone of Homelander, and he’s been committing crimes in the hopes that HL would get framed. The two get into an all-out super brawl, with BN killing Homelander, but Noir is so damaged by the end of the fight that Butcher comes down to deliver the killing blow with his signature crowbar.
Returning to the teaser poster, it’s a reversal of a page from the comic. Instead of Homelander walking toward the White House, it’s Butcher with a crowbar, and multiple superhumans are flying over the building:
Will TV Homelander Die the Same Way?
With the series already straying a lot from the source material, it’s possible that Homelander could go out a different way in the comics. They’ve already gone and changed Black Noir’s backstory, so there’s no chance he could come up and be the twist villain for the final season.
However, the fact that Homelander has already taken over the White House could very well mean that they could have the final confrontation between him and Butcher happen in that location. The only difference will be that Butcher is also dying, and he’s hell-bent on making sure that he takes Homelander with him with his final breath.
Though the entire Season 4 had Butcher slowly dying from his use of Temp V, it does look like his alternate personality isn’t affected by all the sickness. He was in the picture of perfect health when he killed Victoria Neuman.
With Butcher’s obsession for revenge on supes hinting at his own destruction, it’s possible that the final season could have him be a secondary antagonist that The Boys have to deal with before they finally take out their prize pig in the form of Homelander.
