Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse took over theaters in 2018 when it introduced various versions of Spider-Man. Now with the upcoming sequel, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, fans are anticipating the return of the same interesting and varied Spider-Man. However, Nicolas Cage has stated that he will not return to voice Spider-Man Noir, which saddens most fans.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Cage revealed that the company hasn’t contacted him to reprise his role, noting that he wishes they did because he loved playing the monochromatic Spider-Man.
“You'd have to ask Sony. I don't know what's going on with that. No one's spoken to me about that. Ask them. I don't know. I really don't. I wish they would. I love Spider-Man Noir, too. I think that's a great character. Spider-Man's the coolest superhero. And then you combine that with Cagney and Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, come on, it's a great character.” he said.

Cage made his debut in the first film as Spider-Man Noir, a different version of Peter Parker, who battled crime in 1933 as the Great Depression raged. He was unintentionally transferred into New York City in an alternate reality while being ensnared in an explosion. Spider-Man Noir is different from the majority of Spider-Men because he only sees in black and white and has an antiquated perspective to go with it, making it more difficult for him to adapt to Miles' contemporary environment.
With the franchise weaving to introduce Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Woman, and the like, there might really be no room for Cage's Spider-Man Noir. However, it's also possible that the actor was just being secretive about his participation. Although Cage is unlikely to return for the sequel, Sony still has time to contact the Ghost Rider star for the third film. It was initially announced that the film would be a trilogy, with Beyond the Spider-Verse being the final film.
In March 2022, Cage praised the animated film, which sparked rumors that he might be back to play him in the sequel given his love for the character. “Spider-Man Noir was great. I really enjoyed playing that part. I liked it because I was able to bring some of my own personal interests in the early actors of the 30's and 40's, like Bogart and Cagney that were in all those noir films. So that was fun for me. And they let me do it, which is unusual.” he expressed.

Even if Cage isn't reprising his role, many fan favorites will return to complete the viewing experience, including Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), among others.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrives in cinemas on June 2, 2023.
