Following the massive box office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in its opening weekend, fans are already wondering whether a fifth movie is in the works.

Now that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a certified box office success and will likely gross more than $2 billion by the end of its theatrical run, the question now is whether a fifth Spider-Man movie will be in the works.

In an interview with Variety, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased that they have plans to do the next installment but noted that the stars of the film will have to take a break after undergoing a global press tour.

"There are always plans. But right now, [Tom Holland is] going to rest after that global tour. He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve," he said.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures boss Tom Rothman echoed a similar sentiment when he spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and explained that there have been no formal talks with Tom Holland yet.

"No, not in any concrete sense — only aspirational," he said. "I can tell you when I heard that Tom said that, I jumped for joy. All I will say is that hope springs eternal. I really hope so."

If they decide to move forward with a fifth Spider-Man movie, they are hopeful that Destin Daniel Cretton will also return to direct.

"If we have our way, he certainly will be," producer Amy Pascal said to Deadline.

What Is Spider-Man: Brand New Day About?

Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves.

Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he's devoted himself entirely to protecting his city, a full-time Spider-Man, but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.

The main cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, Mark Ruffalo, Marisa Tomei, Florence Pugh, and Liza Colon-Zayas.

The film is now showing in theaters worldwide.
