Sony Chairperson Teases the Status of Spider-Man 4

Spider-Man: No Way Home took the world by storm at the time of its release, as it saw three different versions of the web-slinger as Tom Holland joined forces with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire to take down the bad guys. Sony and Marvel’s movie was the highest-grossing release of 2021, earning $1.916 billion at the worldwide box office, despite the on-going pandemic. With this, fans are in a position to ask when the next film is coming out.

Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairperson Tom Rothman revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the studio plans to release another live-action film starring the web-shooter. He spoke candidly: “You bet.” Despite this subtle response, Rothman didn't disclose any more details about the project, noting that although underway, no one knows exactly when it will be completed, “When you can expect it, I don’t know. Serve no wine before its time,” he said.

Despite this remark from the executive, Holland’s participation is still undetermined given that the actor recently opened up about taking a break from acting and focusing on his personal life. He's even quit social media to prioritize his mental health.

Holland, who is currently in his sixth Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance as Spider-Man in No Way Home, said in an interview in January that he isn't ready to say goodbye to the character yet, but if the studios ask him to, he will do so proudly. “There definitely was a sense for me, as an actor, that this was the last time that I could potentially don the suit,” said the actor.

“I don't know. I know I love this character, and I know that I am not ready to say goodbye,” he added. “There's part of me that feels like it's the perfect time to jump off the building and swing off into the sunset and let the next lucky young kid come in to don the suit.”

The Uncharted star continued, "But if it's time for me to say goodbye, then I will do so proudly, knowing that I've achieved everything I wanted to with this character, and sharing it with these boys will be forever one of the most special experiences of my career. So, if it's time, it's time. If it's not, it's not. But at the moment, I don't know."

Marvel is reportedly suffering from a domino effect project delay following Blade’s big delay, so fans can do nothing but wait for the next installment of Spider-Man and hope that their favorite Holland will still be the one to don the suit because the last film concluded with an opportunity for him to return.
