When is NCIS: Origins set in the flagship series' timeline? What is it a spin-off to? Considering the number of spin-offs NCIS already has, here's where Origins lies in the franchise's continuity.
What is NCIS: Origins a Spin-Off To? Pinning Its Franchise Timeline
The NCIS Universe is far from over. Upon taking seven TV shows under its belt, the franchise has over a thousand episodes for fans to look forward to. But where does NCIS: Origins fit into it all?
It is worth mentioning that NCIS: Origins is not the first spin-off to be produced since the franchise's debut in 2003.
There are extensions of the actual series such as NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: Red, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawai'i, NCIS: Sydney, and now NCIS: Origins.
What makes Origins different is the fact that Mark Harmon's legendary agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs gets to take the spotlight in his own backstory show.
Fans will get to witness how the young Gibbs started before the events of the main NCIS storyline unfolded in 2003.
NCIS: Origins marks the first from the flagship series to focus on a character's upbringing rather than simply showcasing how the Naval Criminal Investigative Service operates on international lands.
How Much of Mark Harmon Will We See in NCIS: Origins?
Ever since Harmon left the original show in NCIS season 19, NCIS: Origins could be the opportunity to spring him back into action even as a cameo at present times.
However, the star recently said that he won't be involved as an actor this time.
"We are focusing on him telling the story of 1991," NCIS: Origins co-showrunner David J. North addressed previously, while also pointing out that they would still be "open" to potentially having Harmon make even a brief appearance in the prequel story.
Fans should be happy to hear though that it has been confirmed Mark Harmon would be back on the small screens in the pilot episode, at least.
