Morgan Wallen has set the record straight on his controversial walkout from the Saturday Night Live stage during his guest appearance last March.

The country singer sparked backlash for abruptly walking off the stage at the end of the March 29 episode. The caption on his IG post afterward, "Get me to God's country," has also become a subject of memes online.

During a recent interview on Caleb Pressley's Sundae Conversations, Wallen opened up about his controversial walkout in his Saturday Night Live appearance.

The host directly asked the country singer, "Seriously, SNL... did they make you mad?"

"No, no. I was just ready to go home. I’d been there all week," Wallen responded.

When Pressley brought up the viral "Get me to God's country" post that became a meme, Wallen simply smiled and said, "Yeah."

This is the first time that Wallen has addressed the controversy since it took place last March, and has become a major headline in entertainment news and social media for days.

Morgan Wallen's SNL Walkout Controversy Explained

Wallen's abrupt exit from the Saturday Night Live stage baffled fans after the episode aired, especially after he posted a photo of his private jet on his Instagram story with the cryptic caption, "Get me to God's country."

According to a previous report from Variety, sources close to Wallen have told them that there is no tension between the country singer and the show. They maintained that he had a "good time" and had no slight intention of abruptly leaving the stage.

It was also the way he entered and exited the studio all week during rehearsal and camera blocking, and he wasn’t thinking about being on-camera when he strolled off stage.

Long-time cast member Kenan Thompson weighed in on the controversy and revealed that he was as puzzled as fans were when Wallen walked off.

"It's definitely a spike in the norm. We're so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody's saying, 'Good job, good job, good job.' So when there's a departure from that, it's like, hmm, I wonder what that's about?" he said.

Wallen also reportedly declined to participate in a musical sketch. Joe Jonas ended up filling in his role.
