Get to Know Metallic Rouge's Cyberpunk Setting

In the futuristic world of Metallic Rouge, humans and androids, also known as Neans, coexist mostly harmoniously.

Neans are humanoid androids, so the animation makes it hard to tell them apart from human characters other than in specific circumstances when their artificial parts are visible.

In the intriguing setting of Metallic Rouge, going to Mars is an option, so it is only to be expected that androids would form a part of its sci-fi society.

So far, Metallic Rouge hasn't explained how Neans are created, but it has provided bits of worldbuilding to introduce us to their way of life.

To function properly and remain sustained, Neans need Nectar, which is available to them in liquid form. They inject Nectar into their bodies from a hole near their collarbone.

It is implied, though not confirmed, that Nectar might also ensure their compliance with the Asimov Code to which all Neans must adhere.

According to this code, Neans are programmed in such a way that they are unable to harm humans.

Given that the Nectar injection is close to where their heart should be, there may be a connection, but this isn't confirmed yet.

While Nectar seems necessary for Neans' sustenance, they are also able to eat normal food. For instance, Rouge loves chocolate and refuses to share.

Some Neans, like the powerful heroine Rouge Redstar, can fight in suits or outer shells that give them enhanced endurance.

In Episode 2, however, we meet a Nean who used to be a soldier but now works as a servant for a couple.

While Neans' services are considered valuable, some of them face discrimination.

Metallic Rouge hasn't explicitly confirmed Neans' aging process. The most plausible explanation is that they have the same form no matter their age.

However, the first two episodes of the sci-fi anime feature Neans of different ages, so it's hard to tell if they age slowly or if they have a set appearance decided by their creator.

What we do know is that Rouge is only 10 years old but appears 17, which could support either of the above theories.
