It's no secret that Star Wars' sequel trilogy was responsible for introducing some of the most polarizing characters in the franchise's long history, but one character who received a ton of criticism since her debut was Rose Tico, played by Kelly Marie Tran in all three sequel films.
Tran's character was often the subject of toxic discourse amongst fans, with some even comparing her to the equally divisive Jar Jar Binks. Others just found Rose uninteresting and thought she didn't have that much significance to the sequels' plot.
Now, with Star Wars set to explore the aftermath of the sequels, Tran is expressing her desire to reprise her role as Rose.
Kelly Marie Tran Confirms Rose Tico's Potential Star Wars Return: "We've Talked About It"
Appearing alongside Lily Gladstone in a recent interview to promote their upcoming film The Wedding Banquet, the sequel trilogy star reflected on her time in a galaxy far, far away, saying that she'd "absolutely" return as Rose Tico.
Tran said: "I have so much love and gratitude for that universe and that world. Lily [Gladstone]'s a big Star Wars fan as well. We've talked about it."
She added: "Oh and I remain such [a Star Wars fan]. It has such a warm place in my heart, just that whole universe, and that entire experience. And I don't know the context to which things would have to fall into place for Rose to return, but I will say that I just love that world."
The Latest on Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's 'New Jedi Order' Film
First announced in 2023, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars film headlined by the returning Daisy Ridley is originally slated for a 2026 or 2027 premiere date. However, key details about the project have remained under wraps, and it appears that it won't begin filming anytime soon.
As it stands, the project is still in development with George Nolfi set to pen the film's screenplay, replacing previous writers Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson, and Steven Knight.
Daisy is currently filming a romantic-comedy film called The Last Resort opposite fellow Star Wars actor Alden Ehrenreich, so it's safe to assume that she won't be able to fully commit to her return as Rey just yet.
Hopefully, the forthcoming Star Wars Celebration 2025 will provide a much-needed update regarding the film.
