- Quick Answer: Keanu Reeves is in talks to lead an upcoming live-action and CGI hybrid LEGO film at Universal Pictures, directed by Toy Story 4 filmmaker Josh Cooley.
Keanu Reeves is reportedly in talks to star in the first live-action/CGI LEGO hybrid film.
Directed by filmmaker Josh Cooley, the project marks a reunion between Cooley and Reeves after Toy Story 4, in which Reeves voiced the stuntman action figure Duke Caboom.
What Is the New LEGO Movie About?

So far, details about the new LEGO movie remain under wraps, but the concept is said to be a blend of live-action performances with CGI-rendered environments and characters based on the iconic toy brand.
If Reeves officially signs on, it would add star power to a franchise that has already proven successful through previous films like The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie.
The earlier films also featured major stars, including Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman.
However, it remains to be seen whether Reeves will appear on screen or only voice a character.
Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians will produce the movie through The LEGO Group. Universal Pictures has yet to comment on Reeves’ potential role in the movie.
Will Keanu Reeves Sign On for the New LEGO Movie?

Since Universal Pictures acquired the film rights to LEGO in 2020, the studio has developed several scripts for live-action projects from writers and directors such as Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Cornish, but none of them ultimately came to fruition.
According to Deadline, the studio then turned its attention to an A-list star, Keanu Reeves, with plans to develop the film around a character portrayed by the actor.
After weeks of discussions, the John Wick star reportedly became engaged with the project. Sources claim that the studio brought in Josh Cooley to pitch his vision for the movie, which ultimately convinced Reeves to come aboard.
Universal is reportedly hoping to put the project into production within the next six months before its rights to the LEGO property expire. If the Reeves-led film fails to move forward before then, the franchise could once again become available to other studios.
If the project moves forward, it won't be the first time that Reeves has starred in an animated film. In addition to voicing Duke Caboom in the movie Toy Story 4, he also lent his voice to the character Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Given his experience in both live-action and animated projects, Reeves could be a natural fit for the new LEGO movie.
