Is The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Worth Watching?
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is a specie of a totally different form, quite a first for a long-running franchise like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it might be just what everyone needs right now especially during the Christmas season.
The narrative of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is so simple, so straight-forward, and as someone who watches it, you need not think too hard and you actually get to enjoy simplicity at its finest.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special reveals Mantis is Star-Lord's sister as they share the same father, Ego, and that is the best gift that Star-Lord got through the years. Sometimes, all you need is the people you love to enjoy Christmas and Marvel's Special Presentation got that on point.
Mantis stands out as the star of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. She gets to express more of her true self, and Pom Klementieff did a great job in delivering her scenes, one could actually how she genuinely wants to make her brother happy that she would go through trouble to do so.
Dave Bautista continues to be a comedic relief as Drax and he nails it in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. His twisted humor perfectly fits the narrative, and yes, he loves the elf, one can feel how happy he is when Matis gave one to him.
The addition of Kevin Bacon turns out to be really good. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special managed to make his presence heartfelt when Kraglin revealed that Kevin Bacon is Peter Quill's hero since he was a child. Oh, and did you see Mark Hamill as the drunk Santa? That's a good one, too!

It also sets up Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in some way. They now live in Knowhere and that gives them Cosmo the Spacedog, a character that could be pivotal in the narrative of Rocket in the upcoming third movie of the group.
The set design of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special also screams Christmas! It's amazing how they didn't really go to various sets to deliver such a good special presentation. Knowhere became a Christmas wonderland and having Groot as a Christmas tree in the post-credits is a hilarious touch!
Along with the set design comes the costumes in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The Christmas skirt of Mantis is a vibe! Drax's Christmas sweater is so cute, and to think it's Drax wearing it is funny, too. Then, there's Groot's reindeer headband which could be a trend. Still, nothing beats the star on Kraglin's fin!
Of course, since it's by James Gunn, music plays a huge role in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The song I Don't Know What Christmas Is (But Christmastime is Here) perfectly set up the feel of the whole special presentation and the Old 97s rocked it!
Overall, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is perfect for the Christmas season. It is not dragging, it is just enough to tell its story. Its simplicity is actually what makes it great.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is now streaming on Disney Plus.
