Who is Cosmo the Spacedog in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special?
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special would definitely not be the first time that the Guardians will encounter Cosmo the Spacedog, a Golden Retriever-Labrador mix in a space suit, and he is seen in various cameos in the first two films, among the displays of the Collector, Taneleer Tivan.
Fred the Dog comes back to reprise his role as Cosmo the Spacedog following his appearances in the first two Guardians films. It is, however, clarified by James Gunn that Cosmo, in the MCU is a female, in honor of Laika, a real life dog who was the first animal to orbit space.
Voiced by Maria Bakalova from Borat 2, Cosmo the Spacedog is a character based in Marvel comics who ended up in space after being exposed to Cosmic Rays, similar to that of the Fantastic Four, which gave Cosmo increased intellect and even psychic abilities.

How Did Cosmo the Spacedog Become A Part Of The Team In The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special?

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special reveals that the Guardians brought Knowhere from the Collector and that is where they live now. Since Cosmo the Spacedog is among the collections of Taneleer Tivan, she lives there, too, and that is how she becomes part of the team.
Rocket trains Cosmo the Spacedog in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special as the special and adorable pup has telekinetic powers and through their training process, Cosmo gets treats from Rocket. Seeing them together is quite adorable!
