The second season of Invincible concluded on a high note, with intense multiverse clashes between Mark Grayson and Angstrom Levy, leaving fans anxious for what's next. While we wait for the next season's release, here are some Invincible season 3 spoilers to keep you entertained.
Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Invincible animated and comic book series, so proceed with caution.
Invincible Creator Robert Kirkman Gives Hints for Season 3
There are many plot expectations for the third season based on the Invincible comic book series, which finished six years ago after 144 issues.
While there are many deviations between the animated series and the comic book series, notably in the timeline of events, the vast majority are excited to see the events from issue 45 possibly taking place in the third season.
In an interview, Robert Kirkman confirms the following events that will happen in Invincible season 3, pushing the limits of the series’ brutal and emotional storytelling:
Mark's Half-Brother, Oliver Grayson Will Grow Up
The second season concludes with Debbie caring for Mark's half-brother, Oliver, who was clearly in his child form.
She decided to bring Oliver into her home, not just to prevent Cecil from gaining custody of the boy but also to honor Queen Andressa's huge favor.
As the plot unfolds in season 3, Kirkman confirms that Oliver will "age rapidly" like he did in the comics, although it remains unclear what stage he will be at when the third season begins.
Of course, comic book readers expect this to happen in the third season, as Oliver should have acquired his powers by now to assist Mark in his superhero duties.
This could indicate that the animated series intends to include a possible time jump in season 3 to deal with this subplot. It could be a year or two, as Oliver grows differently than ordinary Earthlings.
Mark and Eve’s Relationship Will Be Explored
At this point, we all know that Mark and Amber broke up due to a lack of time and a difference in priorities, so there's no point in wondering if they'll reconcile in season 3, especially now that Eve has entered the picture.
While Kirkman refuses to give further specifics about Mark and Eve's relationship, he has confirmed that their story will be a core aspect of the third season, whether or not they end up together.
If we turn to the comic book series, specifically issue 55, Mark and Eve's relationship would be elevated to the next level by doing the deed, as normal couples do when they love each other, which would further contribute to their dynamic as a new couple in the series.
Cecil Stedman’s Backstory Will Be Revealed
In case you forgot, Cecil Stedman is the director of GDA (Global Defense Agency), and he was previously in command of Omni-Man, ordering him to carry out missions one after the other before replacing him with Invincible.
Kirkman confirmed that Cecil's backstory will be explored in the third season, possibly showcasing his days before meeting Nolan, his time before becoming a government agent, and the mystery behind his scar.
Since he would be more significant to the story in season 3, fans are gearing up to possibly witness Cecil’s betrayal as he unleashes the Reanimen against Mark in the hopes of killing him based on the events of the comic book.
Omni-Man Will Have More Exposure
Omni-Man fans will be pleased to learn that he will be given more screen time in the third season following his role in the second season, in which he defended Thraxa from his fellow Viltrumites, Lucan, Vidor, and Thula.
While Omni-Man was successful in defeating Thula and Vidor, Lucan apprehended him, separating him from Mark yet again.
It was later revealed that Omni-Man would be executed for his crimes against his home planet.
Following these events, it's plausible that season 3 will set up the widely anticipated prison break-out staged by Omni-Man and Allen the Alien.
Previously, Allen deliberately allowed himself to be captured by Anissa in season 2, which would explain his reunion with Omni-Man in prison.
If this happens, Battle Beast, who is confirmed to return for the third season, will likely be freed from his incarceration after leaving Earth, thanks to Allen and Omni-Man’s breakout plan.
One Major Viltrumite Villain Has Been Cast
According to the same interview, Kirkman confirmed that one of the two major viltrumite antagonists has been cast.
While he did not specify who it would be, many believe it would be Conquest, the aged viltrumite, who would remind Mark of his responsibilities on Earth, which the latter would refuse to recognize, resulting in a one-on-one lethal brawl.
It has long been established that Mark refuses to participate in the viltrumites' mission to conquer worlds, which led to his confrontation with Anissa in season 2 and, most likely, Conquest in season 3.
The suspicion over Conquest's likely involvement in the third season has been fueled by a now-deleted leak on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) that revealed designs and character sheets that include Conquest.
Invincible Villains, Titan and Battle Beast Will Return
The official X account of Invincible has confirmed that Titan and Battle Beast will return in season 3, but details about their roles, purposes, and motivations are still kept under wraps.
The last time we saw them was in the first season, when Titan used Invincible to eliminate Machine Head, effectively becoming the new kingpin in town, as it was revealed that he was working with Isotope behind the scenes.
Battle Beast, on the other hand, was one of the villains that Machine Head hired with the promise of giving him a worthy adversary to fight. He destroyed Monster Girl, Invincible, and Black Samson before leaving Earth on a teleportation portal.
If season 3 adapts the events in the comic book, Battle Beast would be in the same prison as Omni-Man and Allen the Alien.
Meanwhile, Titan's comeback would mean more exposure to the Order and its members, like Multi-Paul and Master Liu.
