Morgan Wallen became the target of multiple jokes during the recent episode of Saturday Night Live following his controversial walk-off.
The country singer sparked backlash for abruptly walking off the stage at the end of the March 29 episode. The caption on his IG post afterward, "Get me to God's country," has also become a subject of memes online.
SNL Mocks Morgan Wallen During Recent Episode
Wallen became the target of multiple jokes during the recent episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by Jack Black.
The first reference to the country singer's controversy was made in the cold open sketch about President Trump's (James Austin Johnson) imposing of worldwide tariffs.
"I even put tariffs on an island uninhabited by humans. It’s called Heard and McDonald Island. I would love to visit there. Can you imagine that? Big Mac and a hula skirt. Get me to God’s country, right? Remember that?" Johnson as Trump said.
The second joke was made during the Weekend Update segment when Colin Jost referenced Wallen's controversy when he discussed the US's financial state.
"This was the worst week for the stock market since the summer of 2020. But you have to remember — back then, the president was also Trump," he said. "Just in the past two days, investors have lost over $6 trillion. Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at goodnights."
Morgan Wallen's SNL Walk-Off Controversy
Wallen's abrupt exit from the Saturday Night Live stage has baffled fans since the episode aired, especially after he posted a photo of his private jet on his Instagram story with the cryptic caption, "Get me to God's country."
According to a previous report from Variety, sources close to Wallen have told them that there is no tension between the country singer and the show. They maintained that he had a "good time" and had no slight intention of abruptly leaving the stage.
It was also the way he entered and exited the studio all week during rehearsal and camera blocking, and he wasn’t thinking about being on-camera when he strolled off stage.
Long-time cast member Kenan Thompson weighed in on the controversy and revealed that he was as puzzled as fans were when Wallen walked off.
"It's definitely a spike in the norm. We're so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody's saying, 'Good job, good job, good job.' So when there's a departure from that, it's like, hmm, I wonder what that's about?" he said.
Wallen also reportedly declined to participate in a musical sketch. Joe Jonas ended up filling in his role.
