From the DCEU’s Aquaman, Jason Momoa now steps into the role of Lobo in the rebooted DCU, with his first look finally debuting in the new Supergirl trailer.
The stars of the DCEU’s Justice League, led by Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman, will not be returning to reprise their roles in the new DCU. However, Momoa manages to return in a different role, and it’s the one he had campaigned to play for years.
But since Supergirl will focus primarily on Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El rather than Lobo, how exactly does his character fit into the movie?
What is Lobo’s Role in Supergirl?

Supergirl is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but Lobo isn’t part of that storyline.
With that being said, his role in the upcoming movie remains tightly under wraps, though there are several theories about how he might fit into the story.
One possible role he could play in Supergirl is as Kara’s antagonist. In the film, Supergirl and her newfound friend, Ruthye (Eve Ridley), embark on a mission to find Krem of the Yellow Hills to avenge the death of Ruthye’s father and Krem’s poisoning of Krypto the Superdog with a poisoned arrow.
Because both characters frequently travel through space, it's possible that Lobo could replace Krem as the primary villain. However, with Matthias Schoenaerts already confirmed to play Krem, it seems unlikely that Lobo will take over that role – unless Krem becomes his minion, which is also improbable given his established personality.
With that in mind, the opposite scenario may be more plausible: Lobo could be Krem’s ally in the second DCU movie.
In the comics, Ruthye hires a bounty hunter to kill Krem, but the hitman ultimately befriends the villain. The bounty hunter then warns Krem about Ruthye and later attacks her and Supergirl. This opens up a strong possibility that Lobo may play as this bounty hunter in the film.
If this proves true, then Lobo may only appear in a cameo role – unless the film adapts the comic twist in which the bounty hunter is hired to kill Supergirl after Krem’s death. In that case, Lobo could become the villain of the film’s second half, giving Momoa a more significant role in Supergirl.
How Does Lobo Appear in Supergirl?
Momoa’s Lobo may have appeared only briefly in the Supergirl trailer, but there’s no denying that the moment made a huge impact.
He looks exactly as he should, with chalk-white skin, black markings around his eyes, chains on his wrists, a cigar between his lips, scruffy hair, and more. These make his appearance impressively comic-accurate.
He’s shown walking into a building while the surroundings behind him appear destroyed, likely the aftermath of Supergirl’s big fight scene in the trailer.
By the looks of it, he’s following Supergirl’s trail in the film, so there may be a chance they will eventually face each other.
So, in addition to Supergirl and the many other characters in the movie, fans should also watch out for Lobo when Supergirl hits theaters on June 26, 2026.
