Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Adds Borat 2 Star Maria Bakalova in Key Role

One of the many upcoming MCU films that are in the works is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the third solo entry featuring the intergalactic team which recently just wrapped production. While most of the plot details are still under wraps, details have started to emerge about some of the new cast members and now it looks like they have recruited another member of its ensemble.

According to Deadline, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm star Maria Bakalova has joined the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The details regarding her role are still under wraps for now. Director and writer James Gunn confirmed the report in his tweet and described the actress as "incredible" in the film:

Bakalova is joining an ensemble that includes returning cast members such as Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, and Elizabeth Debicki as well as franchise newcomers such as Will Poulter (as Adam Warlock), Chukwudi Iwuji, and Daniela Melchior.

After starring in films in her native country Bulgaria, Bakalova became a breakout star thanks to her scene-stealing role in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm where she ended up earning an Oscar nomination. She recently starred in films such as The Bubble, Bodies Bodies Bodies, and Women Do Cry.

This is certainly a piece of exciting news since Bakalova is a talented actress and this is definitely a huge step in her career after she became an instant star in 2020 thanks to Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. While we don't know the role that she will be playing, it looks like it's going to be a major role and, given that it is under Gunn's direction, she might feature her comedic chops yet again just like in her previous films.
