A while ago, we learned that Sony was developing a film adaptation of the hit video game Gran Turismo. It is one of the series of projects that they're making in PlayStation Productions where they're developing film and TV shows based on their video game properties. The project also started production a while back ahead of its release later this year.
Yesterday, during the Sony Group Corporation’s Consumer Electronics Show press conference in Las Vegas, they unveiled the first sneak peek video for the Gran Turismo movie.
The minute-long featurette gave us the first look at footage from the highly-anticipated film adaptation alongside the commentary from the cast and crew and behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the film.
You can check the video here:
While the footage didn't give us a broad view yet of the story, it did show us a glimpse of the racing sequences which look exciting and exhilarating and it is indeed reminiscent of playing the video game it's based on. The cast also looks like they were having a great time making the film.
The logline reads: "Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver."
The cast includes Archie Madekwe, David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Darren Barnet, Djimon Hounsou, Geri Halliwell Horner, Thomas Kretschmann, and Emelia Hartford. Neil Blomkamp directed the film. Jason Hall and Zach Baylin wrote the screenplay based on the video game franchise.
In case you're not familiar with the source material, Gran Turismo is a series of racing simulation video games that launched in 1997 and has since then sold over 85 million units worldwide making it the highest-selling video game franchise under the PlayStation brand.
