Bautista replaced Ryan Hurst as the Ghost of Sparta after the latter suffered an on-set injury that required surgery and could have taken a long time to heal.

Dave Bautista is now putting in all the work needed to transform his body into the heavily built physique of Kratos from the God of War game franchise.
In a post on Instagram, the former wrestler revealed that he has been weight training again for three weeks and has only two more months to complete his transformation.
After losing weight, the 57-year-old actor is bulking up again, and the fruits of his hard work are already evident, with his toned muscles showing in his arms, neck, chest, and stomach.
“3rd week in to weight training again. 2 more months to get to where I need to be. Like ridin a bike! LFG!” his caption read.
Judging by this revelation, it looks like the Prime Video series could resume filming sometime around early November 2026.
This actually lines up with previous claims that after Amazon and Sony were forced to replace Ryan Hurst as the lead, preparations would begin in mid-August, with filming potentially starting in mid-October. So, it may not be long before the cameras start rolling again.
What Is Prime Video’s God of War About?
Prime Video’s God of War follows the story of the 2018 game of the same title, in which Kratos raises his 10-year-old son Atreus, played by Callum Vinson, while battling the gods of the Norse pantheon.
Here, the father-and-son duo travel to the highest peak of the Nine Realms to spread the ashes of Faye, Atreus’ mother and Kratos’ late wife.
The logline reads:
Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
Dave Bautista officially signed on to play Kratos on August 20, replacing Ryan Hurst after the latter tore his bicep on set while performing a stunt.
Production officially began in Vancouver in February, and now all the scenes featuring Hurst will be reshot with Bautista. The series has already received a two-season order, with both seasons set to be filmed back-to-back.
So far, there is no word on when Prime Video’s God of War will be released.
