Before Ryan Hurst's accident, four episodes of God of War had reportedly been completed and would now need to be reshot with the new actor cast as Kratos.
However, as production was halted and the series was reportedly set to film its two-season order back-to-back, MP1st revealed casting calls for the roles of Atreus and Thrud.
This has led to speculation that the Prime Video series will adapt God of War: Ragnarok in its second season, with the casting calls believed to be for older versions of Atreus and Thrud.
Joshua and Ruth were reportedly the codenames used for those two characters during the first season's casting process.
Because there is a time jump between the two games, a recast would make sense from a story perspective, though it remains to be seen how the series would execute it.
Callum Vinson and Island Austin portray Atreus and Thrud in the first season, and if the new casting rumors prove true, it could mean Prime Video plans to adapt the entire first game in one season before introducing a new cast for the second.

What Happened to Ryan Hurst on the God of War Set?
TMZ broke the news that Ryan Hurst suffered an accident on the set of God of War when he tore his bicep while performing a stunt.
While details about the exact stunt he was performing and the severity of the injury have not been revealed, he reportedly needed to undergo surgery, forcing production to halt for a while.
However, production could not remain on hold for long. Reports indicated that preparations were scheduled to resume in mid-August, with filming officially set to begin in mid-October.
But because a torn bicep typically requires four to six months of recovery, with full strength often taking up to a year to return, there was little chance Hurst would be able to rejoin filming by then – especially given the physically demanding nature of his role as Kratos.
As a result, it may not have been safe for him to resume filming until sometime in 2027.
Due to his lengthy recovery, Deadline reported that the production made the difficult decision to recast the role, particularly after the series received a two-season order that was scheduled to be filmed back-to-back.
Unfortunately, the news came after Hurst had already undergone an extensive physical transformation to portray the Spartan warrior. He reportedly gained 40 pounds of muscle and spent months training and performing physically demanding sequences before ultimately suffering the on-set injury.
So far, there is no word on who will replace Hurst in the God of War series.
