Jin Sakai is coming to the big screen. A film adaptation of the video game Ghost of Tsushima has just been announced and John Wick director Chad Stahelski is confirmed to helm the action-packed project.
Deadline reports that Stahelski will direct the movie for Sony Pictures. Stahelski will also serve as producer along with Alex Young and Jason Spitz through their company 87Eleven Entertainment. Moreover, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan have been attached to produce through PlayStation Productions.
Head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash expressed their excitement for the upcoming project.
"We're excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin's story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences," Qizilbash said.
The idea of Stahelski directing the Ghost of Tsushima movie is a welcome one considering that he's done wonders for the John Wick franchise. Needless to say, this is a project to look forward to in the future.
Ghost of Tsushima was a huge hit for Sucker Punch production last year and the title has already sold over 6.5 million copies. The game follows a samurai named Jin Sakai as he tries to protect the island of Tsushima from the Mongolian invasion of Japan.
Jin is played by The Man in the High Castle star Daisuke Tsuji in the video game. Although casting has not yet been confirmed, it would be great to see Tsuji play his character in the film.
The Ghost of Tsushima film has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
